Hello,

I bought a HONDA XR 125L (2005) and it needs a new CARB. The current carb is good, but old and needs to be replaced. I'm brand new to bikes and don't know much about them therefore I want to ask you guys to help me with choosing good quality carb.

I'm looking for a specific type of the carb which will let me to adjust it so it takes more fuel and air in so the bike goes a little faster. Is there something like this? Excuse my poor explanation, but it was also explained to me very briefly and now I'm trying to find something like this, but I can't.

Also HONDA XR 125L needs 22mm carb or can I get a bigger one like 24mm or even 38mm??? hmm?

If someone can give me a link to this part for my bike it will be very thankfull. Wink

Given up on the big-engine idea then?

Right; the carb; mixes petrol and air in the right proportions for it to burn inside the engine. You can make a carb as big as you want, and mix ad much petrol and air as you like, it wont help the engine make more power, unless the engine can suck all the petrol and air it mixes into the engine.....

XR125 uses the CG125's push-rod engine. Mentioned this before n last posting; A low-cost, low-power, low maintenance motor.

It has a little cylinder.. it can only suck 125cc of petrol and air into its pot at a time, so only way to get it to burn more of the stuff is to make that bigger, and or make it do it more often.

But in either instance; you stll have to get the fuel and air 'In' to the cylinder, and between the carb and the cylinder are the valves... which are diddy little things, that wont 'flow' even as much fuel and air as the tiny standard carb could mix.....

You cant really make them much bigger, cos they till have to fit in that little cylinder... so your only option would be to open them earlier and hold them open longer... which is the job of the cam-shaft.... which the CG engne, is rather unhelpful; engine uses a 'common' single cam-lobe with lift and timing compromised to move heavier, and more flexible, 'push-rod' valve train, as well as both inlet and exhaust valve.

It is NOT an engine that has huge potential for 'tuning'....

Back to your carb.... ought to be a Kehin PD26... a carb that is used on many other small Honda's, most of them with a lot more power than the CG/XR engine makes.... most notably, it's used on the CB Two-Fifty, twice the capacity of the XR and twice the power... SO there s nothing wrong with the carb you have, and it could mix enough fuel and air to make twice the power your engine does.... it is NOT stopping your engine making that power... your engine, and specifically its single-lobe push-rod valves are.

If you cant apreciate this bike, for the qualities it has; like not needng very much fuel very often, and not needing you to lift spaners to it too frequently.... give it to some-one who would, and buy a bike that has the qualities you want, as standard...

All most ANY other 125 will have more power, if that's what you are after, without trying to re-invent the wheel with a socket set and screw-driver!

OK thanks for explaining it to me Smile
I still don't know what carb I should get as there are many types of them (different mm, models, racing models, carbs with filters etc.)

Also you said about the cylinder not being big enough. Will the bike fit like 180cc cylinder or smaller or is it impossible for this model?
