My missus was up running the Loch Ness marathon at the weekend, and like the dutiful type of guy I am I was at the finishing line cheering her on.

While spectating I saw quite a few bikers riding with the runners, not carrying any camera's or anything.

Does anyone know what they are doing? Has anyone did it?

A marathon I done recently had a bike (BMW RT) that was going up and down the course. It was covered in the race logo and sometimes was carrying a pillion with a camera and sometimes not.

I have also seen bikes at other races going up and down the course just for marshalling purposes for the sections of the road that there are nobody standing at.

There are also sometimes pedal bikes marshalling races.
