Dropped my bike today

Today I dropped my bike on my foot while doing a u-turn, My foot is only sprained I hope, and the my bike only has a snapped brake lever.

After the accident I had a weird episode, that I now realise was concussion, I do not remember hitting my head on the ground, as I believe I had my head up the whole time looking at my leg.

I have two questions, should I replace my helmet, and should cut my new lever to create a fracture point so I can get home safely with 1/2 sized levers.

Welcome to the forum Very Happy

You need to see a doctor about the possible concussion.

If you has hit the helmet yes you must replace it.

I wouldn't bother, but it's your head. I heard a rule that if your helmet drops from higher than waist height, it needs replacing.

If your lever still works, I'd just use it and order a replacement. Is there a sharp edge you're going hurt yourself on?

a lot of levers (mine included, image below are not mine) have a built in weak spot, where they will snap.

Only if there's a head in it at the time. If there's nothing inside the helmet when it's dropped, there's nothing to compress (& ruin) the polystyrene stuff, so a waist-height drop probably won't hurt it.

But in this instance there was a head inside it, so yes - replace.

Sorry that was the concussion talking, I had to ride 20 miles home in rush hour traffic with essentially no brakes as I had only 1 inch of brake lever and my right, brake foot was injured so as others have stated I was asking about doing a DIY break away point in the new lever I ordered.

if suspect concussion see doctor. If you smacked your head on the ground inside your lid hard enough to cause concussion replace lid.

Alternatively, you had a weird episode on the bike and fell over. Then another one. See doctor.

Alternatively weird episode was stroke/brain tumour/panic attack/shock/low blood sugar or a million other things.

See doctor.
