Drugs and stuff that actually work.

Adcortyl - if I got a mouth ulcer (which tend to be large and painful) I'd stick this stuff on which felt weird and tasted vile, but overnight and your ulcer would be shrunk to nothing the next morning. Discontinued.

Merocaine - I always get killer sore throats just before a cold. These lozenges had pain relief that actually worked. Nothing else I've tried touches them for effectiveness. Gone and not returned.

Last but not least Germolene Ointment (the pink stuff) - This stuff could draw a splinter from your finger overnight is effective against most things actually and now I find that's discontinued as well. WTF?

If anyone knows where there maybe old stock of this let me know I'll buy the bloody lot!! Mad

Funny you should mention those particular three medications.

I used to use all three and was also disappointed that they are no longer available.

I think there are alternatives such as igloo which you can buy of the shelf instead of adcortyl in orabase.

Not sure about the others though?

Because meds and treatments that work are less profitable than medications that don't work or require prolonged use.

The same rule for herbicides, pesticides and paint stripper.

Shit, even hot chocolate powder directs you to use FOUR scoops of the stuff nowadays. Sad

Bit of that, bit of that anything that actually works can be harmful if you massively abuse it for 50 years, therefore Brussels.

WHAT? Germolene is banned?

It's a childhood staple, that little tin of pink, stinky cream with a lid that only your Mum could remove; kept in the cupboard for when you fell out a tree, or off your bike, or tripped over your skipping rope.

I think it was the smell, not the ingredients that took your juvenile mind off the sting in your knee after it had been smothered in Germolene.

Ahhh, à la recherche du temps perdu.......

/thread.

You will probably find they were discontinued for ambiguous ''commercial reasons'', that are never fully explained or looked into. You might as well roll a dice to pick which excuse about overheads, research costs and so on gets used to justify it - It will rarely make sense either way.

That being said they possibly missed out on a trick... all the good pharmaceutical companies now days milk the profits a bit before removing successful drugs from the market.
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/hedge-funder-buys-rights-to-drug-used-by-aids-patients-and-raises-price-from-1350-to-750-per-pill-10511690.html

I would avoid buying any of the above online from sources that offer them though, however tempting it is; discontinued popular drugs are equally popular amongst counterfeiters and contain all sorts of sh*t.

Which is quite a feat considering how much sh*t is in many of the authentic products.

How much Germolene would you have to squirt up your arse in order to experience any ill effects?

Well, I was surprised to see that Boots link. I remember reading about this a while back. At the time there were concerns about putting it in one's mouth, obviously the manufacturer changed their mind/formula if Boots are still selling it.
...and squirting it up one's arse wasn't possible back in my day Wink

This is my one.

https://www.comparestoreprices.co.uk/images/lo/loreal-wrinkle-decrease-collagen-filler.jpg

Not a permanent solution, just a little dab here and there to smoothe out (most) wrinkles long enough so you can spend a few hours looking better-than-usual at a party, and then go home. In the morning, back to normal.

Best stuff ever.
A bugger to find.

My best mate in NZ wanted to nick mine, but I wouldn't let it go!

That's so unfair HK. You pull the Belle of the ball and wake up beside a winkled old crone. With beer googles effect added in, the result would be petrifying. Laughing

Pretty sure that Germolene isn't the same stuff. It's Germolene ointment and is discontinued.
