Hi, I've had this bike for about 6 months, the last 5 months it has sat there as i haven't had time to fix it.
When it was running it developed holes in the exhaust (exhaust is very rusty) and sounded awful, it was cutting out on me every so often and then completely died and wouldn't start again. It displays the 'spanner' symbol when i turn the key.
I tested the compression and it was something like 40-45psi. So i ordered another top end replacement kit and got around to removing the head today, and to my surprise the barrel, piston and rings are perfect, no scoring at all.
So my question is, could holes in the exhaust (Not little holes, i could push my finger through in some parts) cause the compression to be so low and cause the bike to not start? Cheers

Did you test the compression with the throttle open? Holes in a 2T expansion chamber will stop it running at its best but should not stop it from starting.
