If you've passed a UK motorcycle test, you already have more road experience than it takes to do a Trans America trip.
Most Americans can't drive for toffee, you're not allowed to filter in 50 of the 51 states and most roads have a 55mph limit, which people mostly stick to.
What you need is to develop an iron butt and learn the concentration and self discipline (or mental flexability?) to sit on a motorcycle for a very long time travelling pretty slowly. You're looking at about 5,000 miles.
As luck would have it, Americans like Harleys and those are easiest to hire. They don't go very fast as standard anyway and have a comfy seat. What can be difficult is getting a rental that allows you to go out of state. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
I did the 2010 Round Britain Rally on my 350 Bullet. 89 landmarks, 3 months, 9,500 miles. |

Thanks all
We have been looking at some of the tour companies out there that run route 66 and similar places. a bit pricey, but it includes all your insurance and accommodation etc. You only live once eh?
One of the commonly themed criteria between them though is that you must have held the correct category of license for more than 2 years.
I'm 27 now so this can be my 30th mile stone present to myself. Hopefully the first of many. |

Eh. You're there for an experience, go Harley or Indian. You wouldn't ride them on real roads. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
