A little confused on this one, I got a Suzuki Inazuma 250 last year did the first service at the dealer etc I noticed shifting was getting quite difficult on the odd occasion few months back so I tightened the clutch cable from the the lever side as my assumption was it was due to the new cable breaking in, this improved the shifting slightly but the bikes biting point was quite far out for my liking most likely more than when I got it.

I noticed in the workshop manual says check the clutch cable free play at 600 miles (first service) then 3000 after that, it should be 10-15mm the page has 3 steps listed one from the lever side then from the engine side like almost every bike but the last one it requires you to take the clutch cover off and loosen a lock nut then to tighten a screw all the way in then one turn out.

Now I'm guessing this adjustment would require a new clutch cover gasket every time and it doesn't really specify if the other adjustments are adequate also I heavily doubt this was done at the first service too. I can't really imagine doing this every 3k miles either. What I'm wondering is when is this sort of adjustment required?

Thanks

1 cm free play is alright. 1 mm free play is nothing. Wink

Whereabouts on the bike is it telling you to measure the free play?

10 - 15mm suggests it is measured at the end of the lever, like this:-

1 - 3mm would suggest you should be measuring the gap at the lever mount, like this:-

10-15mm free play at the end of the lever Thumbs Up

So anyone know why you would need to make an adjustment inside the engine over the other two cable adjustment spots outside?

EDIT I see for major adjustments I guess

Yeah people say about 10 mm free play , I have mine about half way though , it all depends where you want it to bite..
