Bought a single cbr600 f3 fork on ebay.
Says no chips, not leaking, good etc.
Get it through the post to find - see attached images.

The pictures obviously don't show this from any angle though.

I haven't much experience with fork repairs however the fork I'm replacing leaks like a sieve and has a much smoother surface (replaced with allegedly genuine seals? damn ebay...).
Now admittedly the surface it is reasonably smooth and there's plenty of grime on there suggesting its been used for a good while without having been wiped so I assume not much oil has been leaking? Could this repair have actually worked that well?

Just a little narked off as the advert even says 'Any excessive wear or damage will be stated on the individual items.'. Obviously not it seems.

Is calling up to say I will fit and see how it fairs an option or just send back?

Opinions much appreciated.

Best regards

Were the bushes changed?

Technichly correct description in stating no chips, but the wear is excessive, it's gone through the chrome. There is a major problem with that fork. I wouldn’t use it.

If the pictures don't show this then return as damaged, if you run into issues point out that not picturing such damage can only have been intentional.

Only changed the fork oil and dust seals, not the bushes.

I will get in touch with the place I bought it from.
Main concern is sending it back may cost a bit although they are only 45 miles away...
Might just drive back with it *sighs*.

They specifically say in the advert 'Any excessive wear or damage will be stated on the individual items.' however its clearly been intentionally missed out here... Quiet obvious damage/wear...

In relation to the bush are you referring to part 8, 9 or 10 in this diagram?

I would send that fork back, and buy genuine new seals and bushes for the original fork.

9 and 10. Out of interest how did you decide your original fork was beyond repair when you didn't bother changing the bushes?

It had never occurred to me that the bushes could cause he seals to leak however scratching on the stanchion has appeared since the fork was put back on.
I assumed this suggested something terminal and figured another fork would be a safer bet than replacing half the fork but that being said, the bushes and another set of seals don't look to pricey so certainly an option.

It was all a bit rushed and I figured another fork would be plug and play as the duel mass flywheel/clutch in the wife's car is starting to play up and that's a priority but with just two cars if something goes wrong there we'll have 1 working car and a bike without an MOT and dodgy fork so this needs fixing as well but asap really...

Will get on the blower to get the new one back to them and get the bushes etc ordered. Old fork off and apart this eve it is then.

Thank you for the input so far.

Best regards

make sure you have all the correct spacers and clips as well, and grease the seals with rubber grease when you re-assemble or you risk damaging them. Which could be what happened when you replaced the last ones?
