Is there anything behind the clutch rod? Some bikes have a ball bearing and/or another shorter rod. These can get gummed up and stick. They can also be a bugger to get out.

Is the lever on the case nice and free moving?

It's all clean at the rod end called the place where I get my parts from and they tell me that there is two cable sizes for the model so think might have solved the problem just waiting on the cable to try it now.

All E models have the same part # so there is only 1 cable size. They may have ordered a D model one if they did then they are potato... find a new supplier.
