 |
|
I'm not looking forward to a time when we run out of oil but one bright side will be places like Saudi Arabia can revert to the dusty, war-torn shitholes that the rest of the Middle East is.
I've just seen some cricket highlights - England playing Pakistan in Abu Dhabi and I can't see a single spectator in the grandstands. At the last Bahrain F1 GP, there were 15,000 spectators ALL weekend !! Over 100,000 on race day alone at Silverstone, for comparison. And the less said about the Qatar World Cup, the better.
I don't blame the players for taking the cash (I would) but once the oil (and thus the money) runs out, they'll be lucky to get the World Tiddlywinks League turning up.... ____________________ Bike history: Suzuki GSXF600, BMW F650, Honda Varadero, Suzuki V-Strom, Kawasaki Versys

The water crisis will get them first.
Thing is though they have ONE trick left. That is to turn all the useless non arable land into solar power plants gigantic ones.
China is doing this and installs 6-14GW every 3-4 months with the Gobi. You can see them on flights that go across northern China.
They can then electrolyse water for hydrogen and then bind the hydrogen into a liquid fuel form (seen various articles on this) and business as usual except instead of LNG tankers it'll be some sort of hydrogen based liquid fuel you can pump much like petrol. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. Great plan if a PV system is actually net energy positive. I'm going to laugh if it isn't, very briefly, in the cold and dark. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
