The thing I find with muffs is that they collapse, at least my Oxford ones do, at speed. I'd imagine I'd get used to it, but it's annoying none-the-less.

They work fantastically on the 250's, being off-roaders, I've fitted wrap-around hand-guards, so the plastic spoiler keeps the muffs away from rubbing on your fingers. Although, sometimes it does create turbulence inside the muff, it's hard to describe but if I ride without gloves underneath, with heated grips on too, obviously, I wouldn't recommend this at all, it burnt my hands, there is a breeze inside the muff. I'd imagine you wouldn't get this without the hand guards, because they close shut on the top of your hand.

Whatever, they're going on the 400 tomorrow.

Indicated 120 and the tucano urbano didn't press on the levers.
No mither on full lock turns...Took a few rides to get used to trusting that my hand would find the opening without looking, and a few more rides until I could operate the switchgear with consistency.

Btw those Oxford ones are utter shite I pissed in mine and left them in a lay-by on the A1 and did what I should of the first time round and bought tucano r361's.

These were recommended to me. The levers and bar have seperate, tight fitting holes, I think it works well. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261630340013

Test fitted on bike, they fit the cbr6 well, plenty of space with fairing. Decided they do need to be located better than the included string, so modified the nylon bar ends I made last year with a 4mm groove and cut a 20mm hole in the muff. This stops the moving back, they wont be able to press on levers.

Haven't used muffs, haven't had heated grips since my divvy.... I've found that my hands get to a certain level of coldness (past painful and eyes watering) then seem to warm up again.... but then I have been considering heated grips recently

To be fair as long as they fit I'm happy to buy some, I was concerned about the lack of room between the brake lever and fairing is all.

They can touch the fairing at full lock, but not had a problem with them pressing against levers etc at that position, however....

How big are you hand-guards?

Most will fit over, I would guess unless they are those stupidly massive ones.

I don't envy all you longer distance comuters in the winter.
My short ride to work is just about bearable for me, even on the coldest of days, without muffs but I'd definitely invest if I had to go any further.
The majority of blokes with bikes at work with muffs opt for Oxford and the ones I've spoken to on the subject say they're very happy with them.
Having said that, they also have heated grips.

Tried muffs but don't like the 'my hands are stuck inside' feeling. I'm sure it's all psychological bit I'd rather heated grips, decent gloves and handguards.

Oh and - most muffs should go over hand guards as they typically have that sort of room available.
It also means you can use cheaper ones without them hitting the levers.
(Cheaper ones tend to be a bit more 'open' which isn't so good for staying warm but doesn't leave you feeling so 'trapped'.)

For what it's worth, it has been suggested that when I crashed my last hybrid push bikes with muffs, I might have got my hands out to break my face plant (and now resulting scar) if I hadn't have had my hands in muffs.

The ones I linked do not have a hole for hand guards but it would be easy to add. You would need to insert handguard through the hand hole before attaching both to bike.
