I've been riding with textile jackets for the last 6 months, and I want to get a leather jacket now.

My biggest problem has been finding something that fits, as I have small shoulders and arms but relatively big chest. So for example, with RST jackets the smallest size that fit my chest has sleeves that are 3-4 inches too long.

The Alpinestars jackets seem to fit better; I tried some GP-Rs and the size 38/48 is just slightly too tight and the 40/50 is slightly too large. (Both sizes are still baggy in the stomach/back area..)

Couple of questions:
1. Will the tighter jacket break in and become looser?
2. What's the difference between the GP-R and the Jaws? Anybody have any experience with these? The jaws seems newer but it's cheaper than the GP-R. I haven't been able to find a shop nearby that stocks them, so I'm considering whether or not to order one.

Any advice?

Where is it tight? Shoulders, gut, chest...?

Leather has a certain amount of give/stretch in it as it gets used, but you shouldn't be in considerable discomfort with a new one. Good quality leather is quite thick and will feel a little on the restrictive side to begin with around the shoulders/arms.

Think about how will it fit with the liner removed too, in case you live somewhere that has summers.

I had a Jaws jacket that fitted real nice, 44 chest, sleeve length was good for me with long arms too, little bit of a gut but not huge.

But you have hit on a really sore point for me - only got to wear mine a few times (after getting it cheap where I worked at the time) before the 'hedge incident', and the buggers cut it off me Crying or Very sad Keep looking at them in the shops, but can't bring myself to pay out for another now.

Thanks for your input.

It's tight across the chest, with plenty of space in the belly area. This kind of forces the material upward and ironically makes my belly look much fatter than it is.

I'm also slightly worried about it fitting in the future.. if I gain 5-10 pounds or my chest/back grows by an inch or two, would the jacket stretch into it or would I have to get another?

Is there a market for second hand leathers by the way?

Sorry about your jacket mate Sad
