Guess it depends if you want these 'stories' (remembering the media only print the bestest most elaborate ones, not the ones where people walked away with nothing) to effect your life.

Marry someone kind natured, reasonable, honest and fair etc ... :)There doesn't have to be anything to worry about. If you do have concerns, then maybe your with the wrong person?

Anyway, who wants to be with someone that bases their decisons on what might go wrong? Wink

The problem is not so much about how people act but how the law is in place that allows this to happen. It's ridiculous that a woman can get half a mans money after divorce when they may well have made most of this money before they even met the woman.

I can't see myself ever getting married personally. I think the idea of being with someone "forever and ever amen" wouldn't really work for me. I think that the idea of those hippy "weddings" where you make the agreement to be together for 5/10 years etc is a better model, as you can either choose to renew (after checking 'tindergocompare') or go your own ways amicably.

Obviously our life expectancies are much longer than when lots of the marriage traditions came about too. You wouldn't sign a "permanent" business contract would you? You'd want an agreement to periodically be able to review the terms and/or terminate the contract.

I see your point. As things stand it may well encorage gold-diggers. But, how can it be catered for per scanrio?

It seems 'wealth' comes with some burden.

Money spent before the divorce shouldn't come into it, unless of course she took it without consent.

As you get older, your priorities change. The typical lifecycle goes something like sex>children>grandchildren>biscuits.

I didn't like the idea of marriage when I was about 20, and I'm glad I didn't settle down then. No idea how the religious fundies handle it. Now I like the stability and the food, and having a woman that isn't going to suddenly become totally fucking mental.

If you leave it too long then you end up picking through the dregs in your mid to late 40s. Your options then can largely be divided into fat, mental, with kids, or a mix of all 3.

Also, lol at the idea of Itchy getting married. That man would take a prenup to a speed dating night.

I've seen this happen with most of my friends from school. Most of them have got girlfriends now, a few with kids, one or two married. Even the more socially awkward ones have more or less got things together and have long term gfs.

I've been the opposite tho, despite having no trouble being in relationships as a teenager, my early 20s (25 now) have been kissless-virgin tier with throttles set to full foreveralone.

Still to be fair, I'm definitely not the same person I was 5 years ago. So who I am in another 5 years is anyone's guess..
