No paperwork...

Hi all (thanks for accepting me ).
I swapped my moped for another bike (monkey) but the guy said there was no paperwork as he never had it on the road, so no reg etc.
I've phoned the dvla up who said I need a Certificate of Conformity, why would I need this if I weren't the one who imported it?
And how can I find out if its even been registered?

certificate of conformity is to prove to the DVLA that the vehicle is road legal and meets the requirements needed for it to be on the road, for example - if you don't have one then the SVA route is the way to go.

There should be a chassis number from which you can try and find out if it's been registered at any point, how you go about finding out the latter I don't know.

Dvla told me to fill in the new registered owner then go from there... Thanks for replying
