CBR125-R tyres

so I recently picked up a CBR125 for the commute to and from work.

I want to replace the tires but am having a fair amount of trouble finding something to fit the rear which is 100/80-17. The bt39ss are outside the price range I'm willing to pay, so was looking at the pilot streets as I don't particularly want some cheap Chinese pos on there. Trouble is I only seem to be able to find them them with a front fitment. Is there any difference between the front and rear pilot street as I've seen that some places seem to advertise as a universal front/rear tyre.

Any other tyres I should be looking at?

I'd usually be raving about Contigos as a good tire for the CBR125 on a budget. Available in the right size and at £40 a tire are great value. Used them on every CBR i've had dealings with. Good grip in the dry, Adequate in the wet, shite when cold weather starts hitting but all the cheaper tires seem to have this problem.

I say i'd usually rave because on 3 CBRs me and my friends have at the minute, None of the fronts seal against the rim properly and leak air which makes them come off the rim under a certain pressure. Back have been fine until my most recent on which won't seal correctly either but only has a slight leak so it doesn't come off the rim unless you leave it a few weeks.

It's a shame because i've always thought these tires were great and always recommend them. Continental have let themselves down... Saying that, stick tubes in like i have in the front and they're stress free...

Have a look on Openo, They had a good few tires in the correct size for sale last time i looked too.

My current favourite tyre for smaller capacity motorcycles. Have been testing one on the front of my NTV600 for near on 10,000miles and it still has good life left. The grip feel and wet weather performance is very good even in the cold weather.

They do it in a 100/80/17, should be around £40. But that would be the smallest size they do...

stick a couple of cheapo 300/250 x 17 on it with tubes, it is not like 9-10 bhp is going to make them break away. No need for expensive tyres on these bikes.

Keep in mind buying a tyre online for £40 then paying someone £20 for fitting it isn't always the best thing to be doing when odds are the tyre shop that's charging £55 for the tyre offers free fitting Wink

OP practically asked exactly what I'd like to know.

Is it safe to fit and use a 100/80-17 Michelin Pilot Street listed as front axel, on the rear of a CBR125?

Thanks for the interest in Michelin tyres for your bike.

Unfortunately the front Pilot Street tyre that you mention can only be used as a front tyre. While we try to offer tyres for as many different manufacturers and bike models as we can, your bike is one that we don't currently have a recommended fitment for.

The Pilot Street range is proving very popular and will continue to expand and take over from the Pilot Sporty, however we currently do not have any planned dates to make the size that you need in a rear tyre.

... Can't say I'm too keen to get my insurers approval by riding into the bus stop, it seems it's two new tyres time.

At least I was able to have a little moan at them for discontinuing the Pilot sporty

For future reference I've gone for slightly larger on the front a

Pirelli MT 75 90/80-17 46 P

and Pirelli MT 75 100/80-17 52 P on the rear.

Too many reviews about the Continental ContiGO! not being great in the wet, and Bridgestone BT-39 way out of my price range, esp for the tread life.
