I've previously purchased a HJC RPHA ST and ended up returning / exchanging it within a week after buying it due to issues with condensation on the inside of the visor in wet weather, problem is that I exchanged it for a Shark Skwal witch I wouldn't get rid off.. but it's not the best thing in the world, mainly the wind noise and visor roughness when opening and closing.

I've said plenty since that I wouldn't buy another HJC helmet but I can't help but admit the inner liner was the comfiest I've ever worn, fit was really snug and wind noise was non existent in the RPHA ST. I'd go out and buy another but I'm not the only one that's reported issues with a problematic seal / visor in the wet so would rather avoid, revzilla say the vents are a new design for that helmet so seems like a potato special tryout or reject the model IMO.

Anyway.. the RPHA 10 plus, has a max vision, visor central seal and double d ring also comes with a smoke shield and pinlock in the box, all for £169 from lids direct.. worth a punt?.. I haven't tried it on but is the same RPHA line as the ST so wouldn't hesitate in ordering the same size I had, also has the same inner liner.

Only reason without asking I can see not to buy is the sharp rating, 3 starts and has a red marking for the left hand side impact result of the helmet, the 2nd worse possible even though the right side scores as acceptable. Also any reason not to order from lids direct? (if they're a company to avoid then the entire topic is pointless).

Finally I don't need a new helmet it's just a luxury at grabbing a bargain while it's available, I miss the security of a d-lock and a good sealed max vision visor, the vent system on this seems more traditional and claims to be improved.

Thanks. Thumbs Up

You keep going on about "max vision"..... do you just mean a pinlock insert that fills the visor as opposed to a universal one that only covers part?

If so you can get them for most helmets.

Yes, and I already have both versions.. a max vision in the Shark Skwal and the smaller version in the AGV K3 SV. Personal preference with the max vision.

Was just making a small list of what features the helmet has for the advertised price point to possibly aid in saying if it's worth it or not.

The RPHA10 is not in the same quality league as Arai or Shoei, but at the price, I like em. I switched from the IS-17 in which I got severe buffeting and wind noise and bingo, problem solved. I get a really good fit in them, but the padding does tend to give quite quickly. Cheek pads are replaceable though.

I do have some visor misting issues, but not severe, and just use the chin vent and first visor open position to reduce this. Haven't got around to fitting the supplied pinlock yet though Embarassed

I looked at the ST version when it came out, but they've had to change the shell outer shape to accommodate the drop down sun visor, and this has also increased weight, so I left it alone. Bought a couple of full dark-tint visors and Bob's your mother's cousin twice removed Smile

Main problem I had with the ST was poor performance from the vents as they where a new design for that model, turns out that the chin vent only vented to the visor and top vent was near useless with two positions.

Vents on the RPHA 10 plus look more "normal" or similar to the AGV K3's (best vented helmet I've used yet) as it vents both to the face and visor, with the added bonus of a position dial on top (I see myself using fully open or closed as normal though).

A visor that steams without a pinlock is normal and if you've found the easy work around (that you type above) without the pinlock fitted then can only be problem solved with a pinlock.. seems positive.

Just to confirm that the silver grid chin vent does open and close (on the inside or behind the vents) when the black switch is pushed up or down.. or are they constantly open?

I noticed after making this thread that the helmet doesn't have a sun visor but it comes with a smoke tinted visor so pop that on and jobs a gooden.

In your opinion is this suited to an upright riding posistion?

I found the ST to have a wide FOV and suitable, so I'd assume this is the same, it's not race intended or more sports styled / full tuc riding?

Yup, you won't bother with halfway open positions, not enough difference. I find the vent wheels tricky to get to in a hurry, and you have to use each side separately, which isn't ideal. Full open does help noticeably with cooling the bonce though.

I don't think the silver grids are anything more than cosmetic, although without removing the chin EPC, I'm not sure. I have had these apart before, but can't remember. When using the chin vent 'switch', you get air directed onto the inside of the visor, but there is also a plastic grid inside the chin bar where air is fed through. I find the chin vent quite effective too.

The supplied tint visor is only a very light (legal) tint. I've never used mine. If you get one, get the full-dark tint.

My Fazer is a very upright riding position. I can go up to XXXmph without having to hunch down at all in the RPHA, no buffeting. I have had two different height screens on the last two Fazers too - no difference noted.

One person I know said he didn't like that the tear-off pins were just in your peripheral vision when he tried it on, but I have no trouble with this. I find I don't notice them much when riding.

Edit: The RPHA10 that you buy, and I think I have mentioned this elsewhere in the past, is identical to that used by Lorenzo, except his helmet tech. fitted a drinking tube into the EPC. I know this, because I have personally had one of Lorenzo's lids apart.

Sounds like it's worth a punt for £169.

A risk to order without trying it on, ever?.. Just basing it on that the ST was a good fit and I'd be the same size in the 10 plus.

Any reason not to order from lids direct?

Yes, it's a risk, and I personally wouldn't do it. As said, the outer shell shape has had to change to accommodate the sun visor and mechanism, so could be different. I have tried an ST, but a while ago and don't recall how different.

I've got a RHPA10+ helmet and I can say it's OK. No issues with it.

But I prefer my old Arai Viper GT - Arai is just better quality and it feels just perfect.

I suppose once you get used to a good quality helmet it's difficult to wear something not as good.

Couldn't agree more.

Popped into J&S and tried on the 10 plus with a medium sliding straight on and a small being far to tight with pain spots on the forehead, shape it doesn't fit but good shout on trying before buying.

They let me try on a shoei gt air and an arai (not sure what model), both fitted in a medium like a glove and loved the GT air more, shame there's no sub £200 offer around.

Can make do with the skwal, just hope that once it's locked and there's vents open the rain doesn't cause any issues. Visor is really stiff to open from full lock.

Could just get another RPHA ST, see if I find a better deal than £199 online, not sure if I'd end up with the same issues.. see what's around.

I would much prefer an Arai. They used to fit me really well, and quality was the best, but damned if I'm paying their current prices...no, my head isn't worth that much!

Haven't tried on but looking on sportsbikeshop the SR1 looks really nice and well designed and then the S2 Sport has a well designed visor mechanism, that is having the option to open on both sides wouldn't go a miss for more people to design like that.

Lad in the shop said if it you can get an Arai to fit then it's the comfiest thing you can come across, still struggled to adapt to the visor opening latch once fully locked.. will tackle one day even if I don't end up owning one.

Based on two prior helmets and considering this one I put a cut off point at £200 just because anything more and it's getting into silly money, I have to remember I'm on a tiddler and there's second hand bikes being sold for what some of these helmets retail at.

If it fits your head, they are a pretty good value helmet! I've got the max vision insert in mine and it does a very good job at keeping your visor clear. You don't have the pinlock insert bead obstructing your view when in the 3/4 tuck position.

One thing I will have to say is that it takes ages for mine to bed in. I may even argue that it will never bed in. JD has one and did say that it took his a while to break in. Silky had one and returned it for an Arai Corsair.

For those expecting an Arai fit and have a narrow-ish head, then this may be the ticket. But I've found it to be annoyingly uncomfortable around the crown on any journey longer than 1 hour. Quieter and lighter than an RX-GP mind Thumbs Up

I got my carbon fibre lorenzo rep for £250 with a dark visor, so it was worth a punt, thinking it would break in.

I've put a bid in on a HJC RPHA ST for £125.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/141801348647?_trksid=p2055359.m2763.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

"Get what's in picture init m8", worst he can do is say no thanks, nothing to loose at that price.

(I do have the option to withdraw bid, do post if it's advisable, nothing sticks out as funky).
