just bought a 50cc monkey bike, made by baotian. its a cheap Chinese thing but was cheap so everyones a winner.

except.... it runs great when using anything up to 3/4 throttle. after that it bogs down and pops/bangs. its quite usable as it it but would be nice to be able to go full throttle and see what the machine can do (very little probably)

Not sure if its rich or lean , give me some tips of how to sort this out. please.

All hoses unkinked? Fuel tap flowing freely? Tank and carb not full of water? Airbox present and properly fitted?

You can smell rich mixture, if you are not familiar with the smell, check the spark plug:

RICH (running cold, distinctive smell, black spark plug)
- Clogged air filter
- Stuck choke
- Someone was ''smart'' and put a bigger jet there (why?)

LEAN (running hot, white insulator, probably damaged/baked)
- No air filter
- Missing the air box + fitted a pod filter that lets through way more air than it should
- Air leaks
- Someone was ''smart'' and put a smaller jet there (why?)

solved.

Having been sat for quite a few years the main jet was partially blocked. Had the carb out and plenty of carb cleaner later its running great.

runs right off the clocks now, but they do only go to 40mph!

Well, 40mph is 11.875mph faster than what an Am friendly bike should be. Wink
