Hi

I 😍 this 🚲 does anyone know how to derestrict it properly and add 🐴 power?

I have the original one very late on a K plate, i have read the later original ones were not restricted?

I want to rebore and put a bigger piston in and stainless e exhaust, but i dont know how big to go i have read you can use the rg500 piston? I want reliability the most becuase the bikes fast anyway.

Thanks in advance

Does your bike have the AEC powervalve and solenoid fitted?
You need it for full power if you want a good delivery and reliability.

I'm not aware of any big bore kits ever being available for the RG125 Gamma/ TS125X engine. The RG500 piston you are talking about is probably an Indonesian RG150 piston 59mm bore, that is used on the RG500 to do the 570cc conversions.

If the RG 125 Gamma cylinder can be bored out safely to 59mm then that is the piston you would use. The RG150 is not the same engine design as the Gamma, and it's more like a 150cc version of the RG 125FUN engine.

The other thing that might be possible is to fit the TS250X engine into the Gamma, they are 31bhp but I doubt the 250cc would bolt into chassis without some work to the frame rails/ engine mounts.

Hi thanks for the info.
I think its solinoid and i dont even know what that means. Ive read the only restriction is actually in the exhaust something to do with them opening. I know these run at 33bhp unrestricted.

I dont want to change engines., i want reliability over speed and i want to give the engine more power. There is a restriction on how big the head can be bored safely and the number you quoted rings a 🔔 i think what you suggested with the rg 500 piston and a stainless exhaust. Derestricted completely. The jets would jave to be upgraded too i think but i dont know what to does it depend on the setup first.

Are you talking about the Gamma or the FUN?

No RG125 Gamma, has ever had a 33bhp engine. They claim 25bhp from the full power engine in the factory manual.

The later 1992?> RG125 with the beam frame is called the RG125FUN. These are pretty much based on 1/2 an RGV250 motor, but still de-tuned a bit, and are probably around 30-32bhp at the crank.

If you have the FUN, then the best tuning mod I would think is the RGV250 cylinder, and one piece powervalves, with an RGV carb and reed block, and a decent pipe and ignition to suit?

Oh yes thats right its 25bhp, 33bhp is my goal. How can i get the engine running at 25bhp as it sits original? Just change the exhaust?
I have the original gamma not the fun. Its a late one k plate ive read these were not restricted for some reason. The exhaust wasnt restricted on a k plate. I dont know

hi,
uk gammas dont have the power-valve installed & it will be near impossible to find the parts to fit 1.
its standard practice to have the pv chamber filled by shoving a blanking pipe into it (length of steel)
in reality the pv doesnt give much power gains anyway, but it makes the bike a bit more rideable at lower revs, it sort of smooths it out a bit between power-bands..

biggest gain is had by fitting a decent exhaust. I can recommend micron or allspeed...if you can find 1 Smile (I have a nice, nickel plated...iirc, micron in the garage along with 3/4 of a 1986 gamma)

you could try going a little bit bigger in the carb or fit a flat slide carb, these give quite good results.
last thing is getting the cylinder fettled by a respected tuner, though this is likely to make it unrideable below 8000rpm but give you a couple of more ponies.
not much else you can do to up the power, but 20-odd bhp on such a small, light bike with shocking brakes is more than enough.
should see you to around a genuine 90mph (over 100 on clocks)

cheers,
GAZ
edit : should have said, the gamma is 1 of the few 2t's I have had, that responds well to an open air filter.
usually stock air-boxes are best but the 1 in the gamma is very restrictive.
fit a conical mesh filter & enjoy the noise Smile
