75,000 Miles

Bought a GSF600 Bandit on eBay the other day, it's a 1998 model and it apparently has done a little under 75,000 miles.

I'm finding that hard to believe? Could it be that the odometer is actually in Kilometres, but even then that's 46,000 miles.

The bike is in great condition if it really has done that many miles.

I got it for a bargain price of £510, Miles weren't know until I picked it up. But I wasn't too fussed for the price.

Isn't that a wear mark on the frame from the rider's knee? and another on the rear cowl.

Mileage would be very high to wear through by the knee, that doesn't happen overnight.

You can also check past mots in paper form, or now online, gives you mileage for the past 5/6 years or so.

How is 75k hard to believe? It's not an overstressed engine and provided it's been maintained, there's nothing to worry about.

Bandit engines, both 600 and 1200, are pretty bullet proof and will do that kind of mileage no problem if properly serviced. Keep looking after it and it should be good for another 20k

hard to tell the condition of the bike from that small pic though.

Why is it hard to believe? It's only 4.4k miles a year on average.

If the bike has been looked after I wouldn't worry about it.

My little 400 bandit has 110,000km on the clock. So yeah 75,000 miles is possible

Great condition?

Been crashed hard enough to need new handlebarst and footpegs. Bent front brake lever. Obviously couldn't be arsed fitting bar-ends.

Has aftermarket exhaust. Has aftermarket headlamp. Missing frame infill panel behind headstock.
Clocks amazingly shiny compared to the rest of the tinwork.

Good to see it's still got the original 17 year old brake lines.

I'd have a careful look at it. I'd suspect there's a fair chance it's had a frontal. Check for straight forks, aligned wheels, dinged front rim etc.

Wear on the heel-plates and ignition lock would fit with the mileage. It looks clean beecause it's had a load of new parts bunged at it.

Well worth £510 though. Bargain.

The guy who owned it before me put the Rethnal bars on it, and changed the foot pegs, he was trying to make it to more of a race bike, I don't think they were a cover up for a crash.

The brake lever isn't bent? I read that changing the headlamp on these are common because the original is very dim.

I will Be changing the brake lines though, as well as changing the oil at the weekend.

with my little knowledge the first thing I would try is stressing the clutch and see how it handles heavy acceleration. The bandit at my riding school kept slipping the clutch when overtaking cars or any heavy acceleration

If it had the matching gold headlamp/indicator brackets, footpegs and nasty alloy bolt set on the engine casings, I'd have gone for the tasteless bandit crashed into the parts catalogue option.

Clocks look a bit too new to me mind. Don't look faded.

For what it's worth I don't like the Rethnals either. I asked the previous owner if he had the original pegs and handle bars, but sadly he didn't.

The clocks are in perfect condition.
