Motorbike laws???

I have been riding for 2 years now and am well aware of the laws of motorbiking, what I can ride and when I can ride ect. I got my licence after the 2013 law changes and as such am restricted to a 125 until 19. However I looked at my provisional today and it suggests I can ride an A category bike. I went to the dvla records database and it said the same thing(I'll leave a screenshot below),I also managed to get an online quote to ride a xj6 which is confusing me even more? So I guess my question is why does my licence tell me I could ride a big bike now when I know I can't???

Don't read anything into the insurance quote. They'll gladly quote you without checking if you're entitled to ride.

It's most likely the trike entitlement. Does the back of your licence have the sub-category (3) or (tri) next to the A category box?

Insurers will happily give you quotes but these are on the assumption that you have the licence. Some ask for a copy of it shortly after you buy the cover; the rest should ask in the event of a claim.

It is just so they do not have to update the license every couple of years. You can ride a bigger bike under using the current licence under a provisional basis with L plates providing you fit the correct criteria. Age etc.

the problem with the dvla as with many government bodies is they are convinced of their righteousness .. even when they are wrong..
complain using their procedure and let me know how that goes..
but i would be more inclined to get an MP. involved .. prehaps shadow transport secretary or your own...
because they will not like bein asked questions or have MP.s pokin around ..

The problem with DVLA is a fairly common one in both public and private sector business. Licence categories would be a 'project', a team of middle managers will be appointed to a committee, most of them will have little or no knowledge of the practicalities of the issue, all of them will be desperate to make their mark and thus justify their existence, and almost none of them will do more than five minutes research before rushing from the last committee meeting to the licence category meeting, before rushing off to the next meeting.
Everything will be minuted by the office junior who was too thick to think of an excuse to get out of the job, and most likely typed up by the receptionist who'll probably dump the job on the work experience girl.

Jobs will be retained, careers progressed, and bonuses acquired.
All is well with the world in the ivory tower.
