I have a 10 year old Worcester Bosch boiler, whilst its going strong, I don't want to get lumbered with a big bill somewhere down the road.

There are loads of different service contracts available, anyone got any advice??

I use British Gas.

Not the cheapest but excellent service - often coming out same day to fix a fault.

I can almost guarantee you that it'll be cheaper in the long run to just pay for repairs as it goes wrong.

Remember that you don't get a new free boiler under those schemes if your old one explodes into a thousand pieces or is uneconomical to repair, you'll be paying the same price as everyone else.

British Gas told me once that if I had the cover it meant I could get some money off a new boiler, but their quote for a new boiler was so much more expensive than any other normal Worcester installer that it still wasn't worth it.

Statistically correct, but cold comfort when it's -5 and the local independents aren't even picking up their phone.

Spares for Bosch Worcester are usually fairly easy to come by, thats mostly what determines if BG will fix it or not.

I had a contract with BG but it was wank.

I had a potterton powermax boiler which is notoriously unreliable, BG could never repair it and never carried the parts for the simple repairs.

So I got a contract with Heat Team, who were owned by Baxi who also owned Potterton.

Repairs were done on the day, spares were carried on the van and the guy (who visited my POS boiler regularly) could always diagnose and repair the faults, purely because he had training on the boiler and serviced/repaired so many of them that he'd seen it all before.

Best £12 a month a spent.
