Well tonight I was an arsehole. Where my garage is, there's an incline that I park the bike on while I'm opening the garage door. Anyway, tonight put the kickstand down, got off the bike to open the door and as I turned the key .... CRASH!! bike was on its side. Luckily I've got crash bars and they saved a lot of damage, but now, I can change into first gear, but can't change up. The gear pedal just won't budge upwards. I've tried forcing it but still nothing. I'm pretty sure the pedal isn't damaged as the crash bars and floorboards saved them so the only conculsion I can come to is that its the clutch lever. Its baffling me why it'll go into first and neutral but not second or any other upward gear. Any ideas what this could be?

Not as far as I know, but it was quite dark and I couldn't really investigate fully. I did use the light on my phone to see if the footboard has been bent and was stopping the gear pedal from going upwards but as far as I could tell, it was clear. There's also a heel shift on the pedal too and even that wouldn't move it upwards.

OK, thanks for the advice mate. I'm thinking its probably the gear pedal rather than the clutch lever, as that would either work or it wouldn't, and wouldn't allow me to change into first and back up to neutral.

Does it have a positive neutral finder? (many kwaks do) if so it's normal to not be able to get up to 2nd unless the bike is moving/back wheel is spinning.

Aha! Would you believe I didn't know Kwaks had them. Just been reading about them and it would make sense. I tried when the bike was stationary so that could be it. I couldn't see (from the limited light I had) that the pedal was bent in any way and the fact that I could get it into Neutral and first didn't suggest a clutch lever problem. I guess I'll have to take the bike for a spin to test this out.
