What do you think about "youtube red"?
-started in USA on Oct 28th
-costs about $10/month
-ad free
-can download videos(which is available only 30days)
-can access to youtube red only videos
-background play(?)

for famous youtube creaters, if they don't subscribe to youtube red, their videos will be "private videos" and no one can watch them.
(I'm not sure if this "famous" is correct though)

For most average youtube creaters and users this service seems to be pointless.

I'm not aware of enough compelling original content on there to persuade me to pay $10 a year, let alone a month.

The most I'll do it is to selectively enable ads on a few regular channels.

I agree. I can't find good reason to pay that amount. If I find regular favorite channel, I may selectively enable ads to support it too.

Looks like other video hosting sites will see a bump in traffic.

Wasn't Baron von Grumble bawwwing about "Google Fuss" a couple of years back and threatening to move to Vimeo?

Then he went boring-and-shit and I stopped caring, but I see he didn't actually follow through on that.

So maybe there is a market for rinsing content producers once they hit a magic number of subscribers. It'll be harder for them to bypass it.

This service maybe for whom doesn't know adblock and downloader.
And I found downloaded videos via this service are available for only 30days!
I also found "Background play" was a function for smartphone which enables you to listen youtube video as a BGM while you are using other apps Sad

I download all longer Youtube videos in the highest possible definition and watch them on a viewer. Or re-encode them and watch them through my projector via a USB stick in the DVD player (too lazy to have hooked the PC up to the projector yet, the cables are routed and everything).

Simple. You install a program called "youtube-dl" type that into the command line followed by the "share" address of the video. It downloads the highest qualtiy version of the video it can find with the advertising stripped out and saves it to your home folder.

Very simple little program and fast with it due to lack of front-end nonsense.

With the amount of recent bitching about how adblockers are the death of the internet, the number people who do not know what one is will be tiny.

The same for people not knowing what a youtube downloader is.

I think its a very tenuous thing for a tech company to presume they are "too big to fail" and act accordingly.

You only need to fuck-up slightly and people will drop you and move on to greener pastures - ie myspace.

How is it acting accordingly?

Wouldn't pay for it myself either. However, the background playing would be very good feature to have and I dare say, there will be plenty of idiots out there wanting the "extra content".

I use jDownloader.org for all my downloads anyway so when you copy a YouTube link to it, it lets you choose what to grab.

i.e. 1080p / 720p / audio / thumbnail

Also does any conversions needed. Works with Facebook too, will download any FB video.

I had this as part of my Google Music subscription. It is quite handy to be able to have a video playing in the background on your phone, but not something that I could justify paying for in its own right.
