On the back of this thread I've been chatting with another forum member this afternoon about starting up a VPN for you ugly lot.

It will most likely be based out of Germanland as they are only required (AFAIK) to store non packet data, not websites visited etc.

This will prevent GCHQ from spying on your internettings, and bypass all blocks imposed by your ISP.

We are aiming for a price of £3p/m for 3TB bandwidth (soft limit).
The bandwidth would increase as/if the number of users increase.

OpenVPN is for hippies, not faggots. Tut Tut

Put me down as a maybe, I'll have a look into whether I can shift from my current behind-seven-proxies solution.

Yes

Server will be running 1GBs up and down. Expected speeds are roughly 10-20MBs per user depending on usage

Will it look like I am in the UK to the websites I visit? I need to access bookmaker websites, but they need to think I'm in the UK still.

If so, then 1000 times yes.

Is there a way of differentiating between VPN and VPL, like will it have a proper name (like, I dunno, "Nobcatnet" rather than just "the BCF VPN".

Only I'm not good with acronyms, and I'm bound to tell someone I have a cheap VPL by mistake.

Theres no option for "eh?"
I dont even know what packet data is? So I voted no. Seem to have managed just fine without a VPN so far?
Whatever the hell one is.. Its damn hot here tonight, would it make the aircon work any better because as needs
go, thats pretty high on my list of prorities its midnight here and 30 degrees with it on flat out. If not then I
can probably manage without one or some or whatever unit of measure these vpns come in.
Does this mean we have to pay to use BCF? If yes then definitely not.

You can always use a proxy service on t'other side of the VPN connection, so yes.

Yes I would use a VPN.

No I'd never consider using a VPN provided by some fly by night company that was set up by n00bs in a knee jerk reaction to what Theresa May has said.

And I'd certainly never consider one based in the EU, why anyone would ever consider that to be a good idea is both worrying and hilarious. Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

If GCHQ want my internet history they're very welcome to it. Laughing

Unless you're a terrorist/ kiddie porn maker what's to worry about? Or is it for ethical reasons?

Principle, mainly. I don't have anything worth worrying about in my internet history either, but I don't feel that it's the state's business to be able to rifle through it without some form of red tape at the very least.

Thought that might be the case, I agree but I'm not sure that I'd pay for the privilege of remaining private.
