Hi everyone,
I've been doing a lot of Google searches as trying to learn as much about what I need to do to get my license and eventually get a nice bike.
Know next to nothing about motorbikes at this point, but like the look of the old white, orange and purple Suzuki GSXRs. 
Sure some of you guys will be able to put me right on whether they are good or not. Not got a great deal of cash to get the bike, license, gear and whatever else I need so an old one of them will be about my limit budget wise.
Anyway, hopefully be hanging around here when I get time in future, and look forward to learning from you all.

Nope.
First, check your license to be sure that you've got provisional motorcycle (group A) entitlement. You probably do, but DVLA went through some phases of changing their mind.

Then you do have to complete a Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) course in order to validate that provisional entitlement and ride any bike on the road. it's generally presented as a 1 day course but it's not, it's as long as you need to reach the instructor's idea of an acceptable standard. Ask about the cost of extra days!
The theory test is technically motorcycle specific, but in practice it's the same as the car one with a handful of bike specific questions. You can fail all of them and still pass the test. The hazard perception is the tricky bit, as you're likely to react to the hazards before you're "supposed" to (it being aimed at genuine learners).
Testing is generally done via a training school. You'll be dropping a fair amount of money on training, including the CBT, so it's worth checking out the local schools and getting a feel for whether the instructors are decent chaps or Shouty McRants.
There's a fair amount of hassle but it's all worth it when you hear "I'm pleased to tell you..." at the end of it.
