Growing my beard out again, but want to keep it a bit neater as it grows.

Can anyone recommend a good beard trimmer?

Remington MB320C Thumbs Up

I own this beard trimmer and have met a lot of people who own this model aswell.
Award winning, excellent reviews & great build quality

Only downsides being it's not waterproof and the charger is completely different to anything else I own (Looks like a headphone jack)

They don't make the model Remington I have (it's about 30 years old now) but the closest equivalent I can find is this one :-

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Remington-MB4010-Horizon-Beard-Trimmer/dp/B007CSTNTM

Never had any problems with mine.

I just use full size 240v hair clippers now. #2 guide for the sideburns and bits I want to keep, no guide for the rest.
This is after killing about 8 different dedicated beard trimmers over the years.

I've got a Remington touch control, had it for about a year and it survives being used in the shower and also being knocked out the bathroom cabinet in to an open toilet of hangover piss.

Still smells a bit though Confused

I've had this for a couple of years and cant complain.

The vacuum feature does not gather up all the hairs but does get most of them.

Are scissors and a comb so very difficult?

If you want anything other than a full beard, yes.

I'm sorry, I don't understand the nature of your objection. You're saying that you want a less-than-full beard?

Why?

I bought one of these things after my first (failed) attempt at a beard tidy with a normal head shaver.

https://gillette.com/en-us/products/razor-blades/fusion-proglide-flexball-razors/proglide-styler-beard-trimmer-power-razor

It's a lot easier to handle so you have noticeably more control.

Why?

I haven't had a wet shave since about 1990, since then I have had a huge array of different styles of facial
hair, from a foot long plaited beard to a tiny little "soul patch" and every type of sideburn from "guido douchebag"
to full on Guy Martin porkchops. A full beard says "can't be bothered" a bit too much for my taste. YMMV.

I tend to wet shave every day for 6 months in the summer (Edwin Jagger DE89 safety razor for the win).

I let the beard grow out for the rest of the year. Usually I'll just use trimmers to trim the moustache area, and the DE89 to create a neckline and cheekline.

But... it's hard to carve a neckline with a safety razor, and I'd quite like a trimmer that has different lengths so that I can keep the rest of the beard the same length all over just to make it look a bit neater.

Maybe hair clippers are the way to go... I'm not really interested in having something with a multi-blade cartridge thingy attached to it - if I want to wet shave I'll do that bit properly Cool

Just to add, the reason I don't use beard trimmers (at least the adjustable babyliss model I had, although I notice the flaw in other models) is that the combs aren't usually far enough forward to do a decent job at straightening the hairs before they reach the blades.

Not a huge issue when it is set short, but when set long, the combs straighten the hairs behind the blade so that the hairs that stand upright get cut loads shorter than the hairs that lay flat. i.e. short chin beard and long neck beard. Not a great look.

Hair clippers have very long combs good at straightening the hair before it gets near the blades. There are almost certainly good beard trimmers, but it is an unnecessary expense if you already own hair trimmers as they already do a good job.

Your local barber. Failing that your wife/girlfriend/priest.

DIY with electric clippers ruins a good beard.

I considered it, but it's expensive, and they don't always do a good job. Last year, I went to a place that was recommended for doing a good job with beards, and they fucked my neckline up badly. They gave me a George Lucas. I'm never trusting anyone else with my beard after that.

I already have a straight razor, which gives a great shave... but it's no good shaving when you're growing a beard Laughing

Decided to get this as reviewers said it does hair too, just used it and it's spot on Thumbs Up Powerful enough to do my hair after not cutting it for a few months no problem. Not bad for £20 plus 4 year warranty.
