£100 "fine"?
Commissioner Morons is also touting sponsorship of costumes and copmobiles.
The Kitten Kourse Kameras are a neat threat as it'll mostly tithe passing-through motorists rather than the 10 locals that voted for him.
Up for re-election next year, I see. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

And why is so much policing needed in that part of England in the first place?
I have relatives in Bedfordshire and visit quite often, so already know the answer.
But just for shits n giggles let's discuss that anyway, because theres your problem, not speeding motorists. ____________________ Currently enjoying products from Ford, Mazda and Yamaha

Before speed traps, very few people were getting done for going too fast. I suppose the equipment required to prove the fact hadn't been invented yet. A police car would have to follow you for 2 miles...or however long required......without you noticing IMO, there did come a time though when speed traps ceased from being a "safety" orientated measure to a "money making" one......and it was roughly about the same time that speed cameras started popping up everywhere. ____________________ Space Is Deep |

I thought there was a moritorium on fixed location cameras on unrestricted motorways?
On account of the whole people braking hard when they notice one at the last minute resulting in what is commonly known as a "pile up".
The bits of "smart motorway" I've travelled on are already heading in that direction with the traffic in lane three adopting a pulsetile rythm. Slowing to 60 as they pass under the camera-ed gantries (which are easy to spot once you have your eye in) then accelerating hard up to 90-ish then slowing again.
Would look interesting from above, I'd imagine not unlike a caterpillar walking. With a little more traffic volume, that bunching would turn into stopping as the "wavelength" of the pulses increased. As it was lane 3 would alternately be going a lot faster then a little slower than lane 2. Add people diving into lane 2 to pass up the inside and you've got utter chaos.
Must also be doing horriffic things to fuel consumption. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

The public sector has, AFAIK, been "cut" by 25-30% since 2010. Although this figure appears to vary widely depending on which department you look at.
That being said, after 5 years it is unsurprising that each department will use whatever it has at its disposal to either influence government directly, or indirectly via voters.
What do the Police have? They can't (I think) go on strike, so they can threaten to fleece the public. Either the government backs down because voters are pissed off, or they rake in loads of cash.
I'd almost like to see it happen, just to see what the impact is on crashes and travel times.
That said, 4,000 miles round the M25, M1, A11, A11m in the last 6 months at 85-125 and never had an issue. That's weekdays and weekends. So they can't be that active now, it would be a shock to the system if everyone got done. But as long as we all know, from x date you 100% will, then surely the revenue wouldn't be that significant. The revenue only works now because they are off 70% of the time it would seem. |

How much was the public sector swollen (for guaranteed votes) while Labour were in? Unfortunately the wrong
fat is being trimmed, we need coppers in Bedfordshire far more than 90% of all this crap, mostly as a direct
result of their social engineering and meddling IMO.

I wonder where all this police budget gets wasted? Oh, hang on, meet Kent Police Commissioner Anne Barnes, the Benny Hill of Quango's. She borrowed about £20K to promote her campaign to get voted in, then the first thing she did was give herself a pay rise and take on an assistant at extra cost.
She's had an incredible failure record, with employing several "yoof" representatives, who turn out to have a shady history. She was a laughing stock on a Channel 4 programme.
| Quote: | Ann is responsible for a budget of £137m and is at the helm of Kent's Police Force providing a bridge between the likes of you and I and those who put on a stab vest on a Saturday night for £21,000 a year to patrol its kebab shops at kicking-out time.
To add some perspective, according to the Channel 4 Cutting Edge documentary, Ann has no former police experience and pays herself £85,000 a year |
| Quote: | It's the only way this depressing realisation that Ann and other PCCs across the UK are criminally burning a hole in your wallet can be made better. Possibly.
Meet The Commissioner isn't actually a comedy, nor is it remotely funny.
It's a police farce. |

The whole of Bedfordshire is very anti- speeding.
Fortunately the majority of it is doing via cameras, so it's simple enough to avoid. Average speed cameras are very annoying. ____________________ My Flickr |
