Hi all

Bit of background, the bike gets used everyday commuting to and from London which involves a lot of slow moving traffic and high temperatures on the bike.

The past week or so it won't idle without cutting out. Idle has always been between 1300-1500 revs so no change there. It's not just a case of turning the idle up, which I did today (shouldn't need more than 1300-1500 anyway)

When it does cut out it sometimes takes 30 seconds or so to start again.

It's not a overheating issue as it happens at all temperatures.

I'm going to be changing the spark plugs and air filter anyway as they are due. At first I thought the spark plugs were on the way out with it not idling and trouble to start.

Now it's got me thinking it could be the reg/rec beginning to fail. Battery is fine, definitely not that. Should note that motorway speeds, bike runs as it should, no splutters or loss of power.

Any ideas of why it might be cutting out randomly and not idling properly?

If there is even a hint of reg problems the first thing to check is the loom connection from stator, measure the voltages, load test regulator and battery.

However I doubt thats it. Sounds like carb needs to come off give it a proper clean. Blocked pilot jets will only cause issue at idle/small throttle.

Dying Honda/Mitsubishi fuel pump. Check the breaker contacts under the plastic end cap and see if they are frazzled.

Does it miss and run rough we it idles . And what year is it . Mine has trouble some ht leads that make it rUn rough and cut out at idle it can drop below 1k before it cuts out . You should here your fuel pump clicking which means it is working but most the time it won't start if it fails had that happen to me . But as above check the simple thing like water in carb blocked fuel tank vent . Jets blocked . Unbalanced carbs. Coil braking down or even your joke is sticking

.but start at the easy bits and work through it clean the carbs out properly try again . The plugs ht leads and coils .
If your stator is on its way out I'd look at checking it as said above as mine went costing me 210 quid and that's having a mosfet rectifier .

Remember...89% of fuel problems are actually electrical and 89% of electrical problems are actually fuel problems.
The other 2% are caused by holes in your pistons.
