PostPosted: 22:01 - 05 Nov 2015    Post subject: Insurance CANCELLED???? Reply with quote

Hi, today I recieved an email from Ensure cover (my insurer) ands they have cancelled my insurance for no reason!! The email said that I had not payed this months payment when my bank statement says otherwise.

I had to change my address on my insurance a few weeks ago but I didnt have a card on me for the £25 admin fee (the cheeky bastards!).
Is it possible for them to cancel my insurance policy on the basis that I have completely forgotten to pay the £25 admin fee? Even though I am paying over £100 a month on my insurance because I am a learner riding a bike covered in plastic????

More likely they cancelled it on the basis that you changed your address and haven't paid. It'll be in the small print somewhere.

Also, £100 a month?? Shocked

Hope you don't want to insure again in the next millenia. Having insurance cancelled or refused is as desirable as drink driving to any prospective insurer.

At least the other guy was helpful and answered my question. No need to be a prick.

non-payment is non-payment, be it £1000 or £1.
Not sure why you're asking on here, phone them and ask and see if it can be resolved.
BTW them cancelling your insurance like this is a bad thing. Get it sorted ASAP.

I was paying £100 a month up until April this year. How can you call the guy a liar for forgetting to pay a fee?

That's exactly the type of thing I would do, my memory is like a sieve, not that I don't want to/can't pay, I genuinely forget shit like this every day.

I didn't know they could cancel your insurance for not paying an admin fee, wouldn't have thought that made sense but then again, they're insurance companies and they will stiff you at any given opportunity.

What a bunch of cunts.

Cancelled for reasons of non payment isn't rateable and frankly I'd not tell them as it's an irrelevance. The question is aimed at fraud, misrepresentation or breach of policy condition which gives rise to insurer pulling the plug. They're not the same thing.

They can cancel if there's unpaid money on your account because they'll get the refund of premium and offset it against what you owe. However, they need to give you fair notification of cancellation - 7 days - and include within their cancellation notice the RTA spiel ie illegal to have or permit to be used a vehicle on the highway without insurance blah blah.

So with that in mind, how many times have they written to you? And what did their correspondence contain?

The way the insurers see it is you told them you live at a different address to the one your policy states, making your policy invalid. Once you cough up the standard-practice £25 admin fee to change it, the policy is correct again and all is well.

The mistake here is that they were not paid, therefore no changes were made to the policy (but a note was left of the new address) and it remained invalid. The insurance company could not be seen to be taking money from you for a policy they knew was false and they cancelled it.

Also, £100 a month? Shocked

Ensure? Do you mean esure, or "insure, a trading name of Hastings Insurance Services Limited"?

On a 125? They've done you a favour. If arry says that you don't need to disclose the cancellation to future insurers, then you (probably) don't - he does this for a living.

You may still owe money, by the way, as you've been paying off a loan that was used to purchase a year's policy.

Any correspondence with them should be done via their complaints department.

Assuming that it's esure, then that's:

My girlfriend had her insurance cancelled as she was asking how much it was to include business use on her current policy, the price was about £600 more and she said she will shop around.

An hour later we got an email through saying that her policy was cancelled, I called up and asked why and how this can be resolved, they made up some bullshit excuse and said we can do it cheaper or we can remove the marker if she can prove she won't be using the car for business.

Needless to say I told them we can't do that and called up another insurance company. Told them what happened and they ended up including it in the price of a renewal which was exactly the same as what we paid for the previous policy.

Only pain was they took over half the money from the previous policy on their admin fees and the amount of time we had the policy, which was only a couple of months.

Sorry for the Tef style post. Long story short, phone them up, explain the situation, if they are being arseholes, just be honest with the next insurance company that you call up and go with them.

Were you a 16 year old pulled over whilst smoking crack on a triumph rocket 3 with a topbox full of unadulterated heroin (street value £748,000) doing 85mph in a 20 zone racing an unmarked focus ST overtaking on solid white lines with no lid on lofting the front wheel knuckles of both hands tatooed with ACAB and three tear drops inked under one eye or what???

It would have been the missing rear reflector that did it.

Do this....

I never trust insurance companies as far as I can throw them. Mine threatened me with cancellation a month ago as I enquired about a new mod, they said they cant cover it and said they will now cancel my policy. Then told them that I was merely enquiring and it's not on the bike.....They then asked for photo evidence, talk about a waste of my time.

Still pondering on slapping a complaint down.

£1,200 a year on a bike is absurd. That's the price of a car for the year. Shocked

Why is it these forums attract mystery OP's like this that never come back when they're called out to post the whole story rather than just the half story they invariably go for first?

I think it's fairly clear that BodyGuard nailed it in the 2nd reply.
