Tyre help!! rsv mille

Evening all!

So in a moment of pure excellence I picked up a 03 mille from a mate for 1100 notes he was going to do a px so I ripped his mits off and saved it from a overpriced dealer price tag! In love with it so far however it has maxxis sportmaxx on rears nearly dead but i have not confidence in then from the word go!

Googled about and people are very varied with opinions but so far I have decided I want to stay with the 190 50 rear and I dont want dunlop or bridgstone due to past experiences....

Ive narrowed it down to either pilot powers or sport touring diablos which i have on my fazer....

Can any help me decide hers some facts about my riding:

I dont ride it epically hard but I feel Im getting quicker
I dont plan on trackdays as of yet
Wont be using it in the rain unless caught out

So do I go sporty michy or touring pirelli ?

Can you not get Pilot Road 3 or 4?

I had diabolo stradas on my R1 which were superb. However I'd want something more proven such as the PR3 or 4 on a sporty bike now.

Great point but this is the part where I fall foul of the wallet, I don't really use the bike a lot and have a few others to fund ( all my own fault and totally preventable) so I didn't want to go to much on the expensive side / foolish I know to compromise but I know the cheaper tyres where once great Smile

So you got the Mille for cheap but don't want to use the money you saved for a decent set of tyres? Incomprehensible logic.

Two things you should never skimp on IMO - tyres and brake pads.

Out of the two you mentioned I'd go with the Pilot Powers. I had them on a ZX7R and they are a decent tyre for the money. Even managed a track day at Rockingham on them without getting deaded.

But, Paddy is right the PR3 or PR4s are excellent tyres and for a few quid more it's really not worth being a tight arse over. Look on OPONEO, a Pilot Power 2CT 190 rear is £88, a PR3 is £94, front is £66 v £73. That's a massive difference of £13!

Who says I saved money maybe the price of the bike is all I had. I wasnt looking for Mille sat on 2k. It was a spur of the moment buy with all my savings.

It's not like I'm buying part worns or nangkangs. Both tyres I mentioned are premium branded and are still in production and rated very well, I was looking for anyone who has experience of either in this bike. I wasn't looking for insults.

Thank you paddy, aye I won't knock or worn I used to chuck them on my super moto because they got so Much abuse... I'll take you're advice and go Michelin. Even tho front maxxis is on 4+ MM I just didn't want to put maxxis back on rear because as you say no one speaks well of them! So I'd rather switch out both and bin the front 😊

Whereas I don't like them much and would take Pilot Powers any day. Powers are better in the wet too, big groovy tread.

Having said that, both designs are what, 10 years old now? I would always spend the extra £40 or so on some PR3s these days.

We're coming into cold weather. BT014s will simply not heat up unless it's a decent summer day. I would avoid them like the plague until spring hits.

Grab PR3s, be done with it. Hell you could do a track day on them, as well as winter commuting.

That we are coming into winter, but in the winter hack to work, I doubt any tyre will get up to heat, if any at all in the really cold days. And lets be honest, it's not like people will be pushing the bikes much in the cold. I certainly don't.

10 years old you say...Now that does surprise me, I guess the design is reflective on the price huh! But granted, PP3s are a good tyre, not one to be sniffed at.

That was a good read.

Next tyre rotation I might try the T30s and see what they're like. But, I do like the 14s Thinking
