Hey lovely bcf,

I'll try and give as much info as possible as I can't come here again til later.

Set up;
Virgin media home hub connects via Ethernet to a 5 port switch (1).
Switch goes to a poweline adaptor and another 5 port switch at the other end (2).

From switch one, I have my server, mac, tv, virgin tv (and the powerline adaptor)
From switch two I have a PC and printer.

My OH uses her work laptop at home, connects via VPN to the work network. This will only work wired (straight into the VM home hub)... and when switch one (as in, everything else) is unplugged..

Does anyone know why this might be the case? As yet, I haven't tried unplugging one thing at a time. The VPN is temperamental anyway and will never work on wifi. Although, it used to.

Many thanks
FJ

The VM Hub is pants, as you well know, and shame on you for not dropping it into modem mode and buying a router. Wink

FWIW, I'm using the Netgear WNDR3700v4 with DD-WRT and it's been faultless.

The new AC Superhubs seem alright TBH, Is it something simple like when you missus connected to the network she clicked public rather than home and it has restrictions on the connection?

I'd try deleting the wireless connection and set it up again.

I don't mind buying a router, but it's a bit annoying having to. I'll see if I can get it working first.

I've tried this without joy. I've also done a hard reset of the hub a few times and this has worked, but only for an hour or so. It's annoying setting everything up again Evil or Very Mad

Ok, CaNsA, you win. I'll order the router.

Before I do, did you consider the N900 when you bought yours?

this maybe a daft question, but what security option are you using. I don't know anything about VPNs and the OH workplace will have a check to ensure that everything is secure. if they made a change and your using something daft like WEP it maybe not allowing that weak security for safety purposes
