ok, the time has come for a new toy, I already have a few sports bikes, but what I really need is a bike that is,

1. very comfy, two up long distance
2. shed loads of power, just ride the throttle power
3. good tank range
4. reasonably low maintainance
5. reliable
6. good for a bit of luggage
7. budget, well it's not an open cheque book but I will pay for the right bike

Think that's about it, so far I have been thinking along the lines of, bmw gs trial bike looking thing, vfr 800, hayabusa, blackbirds, come to think of it anything that will do the job.

Would anyone have any advice for me, do you have a bike that will fit the task? if so whats it like?

Thanks Thumbs Up

I've had a pop on a VFR800 (non-Vtec model)

Great bike, smooth comfy, built for the job. Don't know about 2 up but it is more tourer than racer....

Only other bike I can think of is a ZX12R but the VFR would be my choice.

A big ZZR! Magic. Thumbs Up Either that or the Blackbird if you're doing things properly. The Hayabusa is fugly. (Even worse than the back end of an SRAD. Laughing )

FJ 1200. Comfy, fast, ultra reliable, great for luggage and will give a busa a drag strip run for its money up to 100mph! There are still enourmous amount of stuff availiable for it and it has a great owners club.

Also can be gotten cheap. £800 quid for a rough and ready up to £2000 for a mint late ABS model.

I recommend the 1988-89 model.

Hell of a lot somfier than a cruiser if you spend more than 30 mins in the saddle.

I only got rid of mine to get my GSXR dream bike, dont have a bad word to say about the good old girl. I had a 1988 (3cV) model.

The FJ1200 is a proto Blackbird/Busa, but is much cheaper to look after as its aircooled, and isnt oil fussy-it runs fine on a regular supply of cheapo oil. I recommend avon Azaros for tyres, they give good grip but last well.

Sounds like a 900 Diversion. I personally prefer the older XJ900F for looks though.

looks fine in my eyes, looks bike like with the engine in view, i'd be happy to ride one, a friend had the 600 version and to this day he swears it's one of the best bikes he's had.

Would be very interested to hear from the tiger owner Smile

The tiger owner would be Goose, and all you'll get from him right now is "omg i love it it's brilliant i love it i love it i love it' style dribbling. Very Happy

Give him a couple of months to get a 'proper' review. Thumbs Up

quirky is good Thumbs Up Very Happy Precisely what I find the speed four is too, in its crazy ass colours.

I reckon the tiger is right up your street, git. Just need to find out what sort of reliability you'd get from it. Take a rummage through this to see what other owners think of their tigers.

Looks good and confy, good wind protection, PLENTY of power and you certainly won't go unnoticed Laughing

A tiger sounds like it'd be perfect for you. The tank range is excellent, it's damn good 2 up (I've been a pillion on my dads plenty of times and it's practically a sofa compared to my RS), there is a decent amount of power there too. The older model isn't so powerful and doesn't come with any hard luggage (I think the new one does?) but imo it's a nicer looking and would definitely do you proud. They can be picked up at seriously affordable prices too. Thumbs Up

And it isn't an ugly bike. Razz Quirky is king. Wink

not ugly, just the wrong colour...

If you want comfy, GL650/700 (if you can find one) ugly but VERY comfy and relyable, as close to a goldwing as you will get without it being one... cx650 eurosport, same thing without a faring... both shaft drive btw, and both can be got for £1500 at the absoloute most, £500 if you look hard enough...

zzr1100 (apparently better than the 12)

fj 1100/1200?

divy 900

pan european?

older bimer (seccond hand they are rare though, because nobody wants to sell them, so they must be good right?)

What's your budget?

The VFR is probably the most obvious choice.

Hi

Depends how normal you want it to be. ST1100 is comfy, loads of luggage space and a massive fuel tank. Probably no fun for commuting or short blasts.

Also consider one of the older Triumph Trophys. The 1200 is very torquey and quite powerful. Smooth as anything to ride.

All the best

Keith
