Interesting. Swingarm, frame, engine and exhaust from the R1.

They don't quote power figures, but sounds like they've neutered the top end: "Driven by a 998cc crossplane engine tuned for extra low to mid range torque"

It's what Suzuki did with the B King 10 years ago. Looks like they were too early with it.

I prefer the Yammy in that grey and hideous green than the blue and white I saw it in on some other site.

I think it looks awesome in an ugly as fuck kind of way. Motorbikes are supposed to be ugly, noisy, smelly, uncivilised things.
This looks like it may very well tick all the boxes but smelly. Only takes one teensy weensy burnout to fix that.
Genuinely I think it looks properly bad ass. Would buy.
Any talk of price?
Edit, £9999 seems to be being bantered about. to hit dealers in April.

More here, lots of hi res pics in the gallery.

Looks ok, I'm sure Yamaha will do a few different editions like that have with the MT09.

ive been wanting yam to do a crossplane fz1 for years.
why did they make it look like that? its not a looker is it?
are there any specs on the engine yet?
like how many of the claimed horse power will be imaginary?
lets hope they get it somewhere good like bmw and aprilia did.
and not like honda, yamaha, kawasaki and suzuki did with de tuned dull things.

Ugly but somehow cool.

Interestingly against Suzuki (other than the GSXR which holds no interest for me at all) at least they've gone different and intriguing. Suzuki's best shot has been a 200CA Van Van (which perversely does interest me )

The XJR1300 engine is so much prettier. If we could ignore all this Euro pick a number bollocks, then Yamaha should have just wrapped the best looking IL4 engine they ever made in a new modern chassis with decent suspension and brakes.

The same people that will find this new MT10 cool, would get wet knickers over a Z800 and all the other similar angular modern crap like it.

Z800 is meh, this is much nicer. They are barely the same. This is more a cross between the tracer and an MT-01

Although, new rad required in 3..2..1..

This is a bit of an generalisation, but personally I find conventional IL4s boring, regardless of their power, or the bike they're fitted to. Very smooth, and entirely competitive and competent from a performance perspective, but not very inspiring.

The CP4 engine feels very different to a conventional IL4. The '15 R1 feels like a mid-capacity performance twin up to about 7-8k RPM, and a very highly tuned V4 above that. It feels a bit vibey and edgy, and it sounds brilliant, especially when using the quick shift at full chat.

I suspect they generally appeal more to riders who prefer V-twins. Not you, then.
