Is it serious? Or a comedy?

Francis Jones does appear to be real person and a local "character" in Darlington, but is this show and the other characters really real?

Please help me to understand.......

They'll film 30 hours of mundane tedium and 30 minutes of cocking around. Which is going to air?

Filming random people doing their "unusual" jobs is *very* cheap and although even after the edit it ends up producing unwatchable shit, a large proportion of the population will spend their evenings in front of unwatchable shit.

Rent a Cop. Ice Road Truckers. Posh Pawn. American Chopper. Pawn Stars. American Pickers. Traffic Cops. Deadliest Catch. Dog the Bounty Hunter. Ace of Cakes. That one about a tattoo shop. The Hotel. Storage Wars. Storage Hunters. Gold Divers. That one where they chop down trees. Lizard Lick Towing. Airport.

All of these make Homes Under the Hammer look like The Ascent of Man.

Pretty much. Once upon a time the Discovery channel made and showed a lot of good stuff but it's been in a race to the bottom like everyone else, so nowadays they just pump out this crap. Once upon a time MTV played music, etc. Obviously these days more people want to watch Paris Hilton bitching about all her first world problems than music videos. That probably says more about society than the stations themselves.

Then there's 'goggle box', which I'm glad I've had very limited exposure too; up to 3.5m people tune in to watch other random people watching unwatchable shit.

I really, really, really hope we have reached the bottom.
I always like to consider myself open minded, but I can't comprehend a way it could actually get worse than that.

It confuses me.

Can anyone be that funny unintentionally?

Can anyone be that much of a tit intentionally?

I cant watch it until I understand it.

To paraphrase Jon Richardson: 15 minutes of entertainment crammed into an hour.

On a related note, was watching the first episode the other night with the missus, when he goes into the yard to 'catch burglars' with his spesh apprentice we were surprised to see our race truck and gear in the background during one of the shots, it was her dads work yard where he keeps the truck, explains why it always stinks of piss under that shelter I guess (dirty pillock!).

I'd like to say its just for T.V. but Francis is more or less as he is on camera (met him at the yard before and another time years back when he was at Darlington College doing a 'motivational' speech), hearts in the right place but the brain went on indefinite leave to the North Pole I think.
