Into 1st gear. Hit starter to go.
To stop down to 1st and hit kill switch, should you need to do so.

You just have to be very aware and make sure you do not have to stop unless you have too.

Just tried it. Fuck that shit yo. Am on a crowded petrol station forecourt leading to a road of backed up traffic.

Game over man, game over.

Got collected by a nice man from sos motorcycle recovery. He said he would only entertain riding without a clutch down quiet back roads or motorway so my pink Ghey card has been rescinded.

2 clutch cables ordered so one can be taped t'other as a ready spare.

Peace out.

So tempted to Thumbs Down you but there are worse places to conk out than a coffee selling petrol station forecourt.

Please check BCF more often in future. Mr. Green

Big up to motorcycle_recycle* on the eBay. Ordered cables at side of road, 5.30pm, in my hand 17 hours later. Now fitted.

The clutch cable went on the XR-SM while riding to a friends place.Luckily, much of the route I did not need to use it and it was only when I left the rural roads and encountered traffic that I had a problem.I tried all sorts of ways to get going again, but none of them got me very far.Luckily I was not too far away from said friends place and after a quick phone call I was soon on my way home to get a spare cable from my shed and back to where I had left the bike.

But it was not the first time that the cable had gone and it always seemed to be in the same place ie. where the cable was directed away from the exhaust pipe by way of a bent tube.Luckily, the spare was an aftermarket item that has a better way of keeping the cable outer away from the exhaust.

I fear the cable going on the R1,so I now keep a spare in the tail unit Thumbs Up

Mine snapped about 10mm from the lever where it is exposed. Now have a spare taped to the one I have just fitted with tape over the exposed ends to keep them dry. Took 10 minutes to fit.

On a light bike, get the engine idling, paddle with your feet to get the bike moving forwards then stick it in gear.

It always goes there on me too. I've had it happen a few times now, used Triton's method and seems to work well with clutchless up & down shifts.

Mine nearly snapped on me the other day actually, half the cable had frayed at the lever and the biting point was much closer the the bar. The biting point changing is a good indicator for anyone worrying about cables snapping Thumbs Up

Should have re-tasked your mostly redundant throttle close cable...

A cable repair kit will fit in even the smallest under-seat storage area.

I rode from cornwall to london with no clutch cable, pulling away start the bike in neutral, either run with it and jump on or paddle it so you are rolling then click into first or second if its a powerful bike and your away. Then as you pull up to stop just click into neutral. Filtering/traffic is a little technical but you basically use the rear brake more and juggle between that and a little throttle to keep the bike running/moving.

I drove my old 106 diesel for 3 months with no clutch due to the release bearing failing and the car not being worth repairing (headgasket gone, clutch gone, back axle failed, boot floor rotten). Crank the starter to pull away, match revs with changes, into neutral when you come to a stop, then into gear and starter to pull away again.

Everyone should carry a spare clutch cable, they cost like £10-20 take 5 mins to fit with basic tools and can save from from being stranded. I've had 2 break (in about 100k of riding) the first I was only 5 minutes from home and rode it, the other I replaced and was on my way. Thumbs Up
