Broadband provider

TalkTalk, Plusnet or Sky?

Price difference is negligible, all unlimited, all the same speed.

Moving away from BT, and Virgin isn't available.

Pretty much purely use Kodi and iPlayer these days so want somebody who wont throttle the connection if possible, films/tv dropping out at peak times is a serious annoyance.

Lots of frowned upon internet use so want a provider who wont send "Downloading is naughty, m'kay" letters.

Whoja recommend?

I was with talktalk in Wales, the connection was OK a lot of the time.
My problem with them started when I moved back to Glasgow, I knew I was moving around the middle of January, so called them to ask what I needed to do and was told to call them 24 hours before I moved and they would disconnect my line etc.

So the day before I moved I called them and told them I was moving the next day and they said that line would be disconnected the next day etc.... when I got to Glasgow I called them and asked for the line to be reconnected at my new address, they said there wasn't a line showing up here and they would need to send an engineer etc. Anyway, long story short, they sent the engineer to my old address TWICE, by the end of March they still hadn't got me connected and said it was going to take another 3 weeks etc. I called Virgin and asked when they could get me connected (this was on the Wednesday), they asked if I'd be home on the Saturday morning.

The thing that really annoyed me with talktalk, they were still charging me for the service that I wasn't receiving because they hadn't disconnected the line in Wales

Plusnet tick your boxes so far as I know.
Much less throttling here than on Virgin or BT but it's only ADSL.
They don't block any sites either

Was on Plusnet, switched to Sky because of a deal that made it cheaper.

Can certainly attest that Sky doesn't throttle, as I am filling up my 2TB HDD nicely at the maximum my line can handle.

We haven't received any naughty letters, but I'm still using a Usenet subscription that I've yet to cancel. That gets everything that's new. P2P get anything that's old.

Sky don't throttle and they didn't whinge when I pulled over 2TB in a week.

If you go for them, do it through topcashback. £85 in return for a couple of minutes is well worth it.

Phone each ones customer service tech backup line at a busy time and see how long it gets to talk to someone and which has the most annoying hold music.

I have my normal broadband with plusnet and get to talk to someone in Leeds if I call up. So while they usually still have an Indian sub-continent accent with a hint of yorkshire, they fully understand what I'm saying.

Usually get a warning when I'm approaching my bandwidth limit so I can purchase extra before going into gougey prices.

I was with talk-talk before them (quite a few years ago now) and they were diabolically unhelpful in any communication to the point of telling outright lies. Like when they told me there was no such thing as a user name and password and that I HAD to use one of the modems they supplied and it was impossible to connect to the internet without it. They would also take any oppertunity to fuck me over too like rolling over contracts because it wasn't cancelled in the "cancellation window"... All sorts of cunts games like that.

Sky ADSL here, 24mbit, get 20mbit (very close to the exchange) has been like that since 2005. Used to be BeThere until Sky bought them out a few years back and I got migrated to them.

Currently on free broadband for a year with them as part of a deal I did when moving line rental over to them.

If you go with sky when they phone you up asking if you want sky tv for a super duper low price tell them to take you off there list or they will just keep calling and calling and calling and calling and again and again and again...........

Sky have been much better for ADSL.

Stay away from TalkTalk.

I worked for them a while back.
People paying for an inet line for 6months, still not been connected :/
3-4hrs wait times on the tech support line
Internal customer database system was the same as the CPW DB, was totally not designed for that amount of data.

After 2months I called them a bunch of broadband nazis and walked out.
