I used to just block them on my mobile but now I am getting either "private" or "unknown" showing and these will not block. It is very annoying as I am expecting a call from the hospital for an operation and I know that they have their number hidden so it shows on my phone as "unknown". What to do?

Hang up as soon as you've determined that it's not the hospital.

Obvious answer is obvious.

Why does the hospital hide their number?

Last time they called me it was hidden, could be that it is from a surgeons secretary rather than a general ward phone and they do not want to be giving it out and getting general enquiries.

Just dump the call. Surely the hospital will leave a voicemail if you don't answer the call. You have voicemail right?

The call I am expecting will be for a last min cancellation, they will want an answer then and there.

Then I agree with others. You are going to have to answer every call until you receive the one you're waiting for.
Obviously the tossers have got wise to clever phones and no longer show a number that can be blocked.

Sport Sport Sport and Sport.

Keep the fuckers on as long as possible before they get fed up and close the call.

Try to act interested but dumb as a cnut.

I find the mirth is easier than the angst.

The quiet calls are the spoilers though. Sad

The fight is lost as OFCOM are powerless to stop it. The war is not over as if they continue to make calls and pay for no sale something will give. Talking to the wall doesn't pay the bills they have.

Could you get a cheap PAYG phone with a new sim? Give the hospital the number, no one else.

It's possible you'll get fewer nuisance calls for a while at least.

Err, I meant to carry as well as his usual one so he knows when the cheapo one rings it's the hospital. He only needs it until he's had the anticipated call from the hossie.

I got a spam (cold) call from a company offering to stop me getting spam calls. I wasn't very polite.

I have an app called whoscall. You can set it to block private numbers, international numbers and numbers that aren't in your contacts. It also identifies incoming calls that have been reported.

It's available on Android & IOS.

We had a phone line put in at the start of September, for the BT Infinity that was new in the village, but we didn't bother getting a phone to go with it. Then, late October, I noticed 3 mobile were putting their 0845 calls up from 25p to 45p/min. As we, like most people, occasionally have to use an 0845 number, and we get free ones with the BT package, I bought a £5 corded phone just for that purpose.

All good so far, we never gave the new number to anyone, until my wife rang her insurance company on it. She didn't give the number to them but since that day we've started getting cold calls from the usual PPI, 'Had any accidents?', 'Want any insulation?' lot.

FFS, Swinton. Mad
Thanks a bunch.

Spam call?

Hi, I've been expecting you. Whatcha wearing?

As to having a landline for calling 0845 numbers, there's www.saynoto0870.com and there are loads of apps in the Google Play Store that let you call 08 numbers from your free minutes.

The way the NHS do almost everything from withheld numbers is really fucking annoying. Rolling Eyes

Ste, I doubt a "tell me what you are wearing ad slowly peel them off" phone conversation would be ideal in front of my year 7 textiles class.

Talking about phone stuff.

I made a call to 118118 (I KNOW) to find the number for a bunch of cnuts who didn't list their number on t' Internet (in any easily searchable way).

Talk-Fucking-talk have just billed my arse for £8.59 for the privilege.

I have been busy all afternoon firing off letters of complaint to every fcuker. Mad

Very Happy

But the way a lot of whankirs call NHS for stuff like 'a plook they've had for two days now'. must piss NHS off too. A bit. Smile

Get a new sim (with cheap phone if you desire), give that one to the hospital.

You could always pass the calls around your year 7 class? Work it like a game of 'hot potato' - extra work for the one that doesn't keep the person on the other end connected for at least 20 seconds before passing it on!

I dunno, it'd probably be more educational for them than the year 7 textiles syllabus...
