just wanted to share this and say hello.

I didn't want to say CBT 'passed' as it's not a test of course (it feels like one though). Coming into it with zero biking experience, I just couldn't get to grips with the clutch control and keeping steady revs when on the cone slalom and figure of eight.
Then it was then suggested I do the rest of the day on a 50cc moped, as it was clear I was panicking and would need a lot more time to get my head around using a geared bike. Sad
It was still fun though, and I got the certificate.
When I get my bike soon, I hope I can get to grips with the bits I struggled with.

Probably, you'll do better while not under pressure.

But it does highlight that the CBT is more about churning out DL196 certificates than in actually training people to ride bikes. Sad

That's how it felt.
I think doing it over two days would be much better.

I felt like I was cheating because I was on the moped - much easier to deal with for a novice.

Find the time to ride to a local empty supermarket car park and practice U-Turns and figure of 8's with a cheap set of plastic cones when you get your bike. I did it a while ago in prep for my Module 1 and it helped a fair amount also gives you time in a closed of safe area to make any mistakes and learn from them rather than out on the road or in the long run on the test pad (I wont get ahead of myself). Personally I've only performed one U-Turn since passing my full test and well I don't live in London so don't have to do figure of 8 style filtering, can't see where else that actually comes in use out on the road. Thinking

My CBT was my first ever time on a motorbike and then I had a gap of a few months before I got mine and was on the road on my own.. it all comes flooding back, naturally you'll make mistakes and probably many you wont realise at first but when you're just starting out as long as you make it from point a to b in one piece and haven't fallen of it's a win imo.

Practice and time, the more you ride the more you'll get used to it.

Clean your bike and apply a coating of ACF-50 as soon as you get it. Purchase some thermal layers or a good set of gear to keep you warm and a helmet that has a pinlock. (if you haven't already done the latter). Will make riding at this time of year easier on yourself, acf-50 so you don't have to clean crud of daily.

Thanks for that dude, I'll take it all on board.
So far, I'm just collecting my gear. The bike is going to be the last thing I buy (Yamaha YBR Custom BTW). Bought a good jacket and gloves yesterday, next pay day will be the trousers, then the helmet, then some good boots.
I could do it all now, bike included, but i'll skint myself, so I'll take my time.

Helmets are the one that you want to spend the most time looking at just because J&S sized me up as a 61 XL for my first ever helmet then a few months latter buying my second one with a bit more knowledge and what to look out for I learnt I'm actually a 58 medium, sizes vary for different brands but not to that extent mostly it's just different head shapes no one head fits all etc. Don't buy online without trying and don't buy second hand, trust only yourself etc and take your time in the shop regardless of what sales person says or attempts to rush you into a choice, ask here if in doubt.

Oh and be prepared for the amount of small things that you'll discover you need to buy but don't have, I said at one point "i'm done buying things".. I'm not and I never will be. Laughing

Funny you should say that. I'm sure I must've spent about an hour and a half in Fowlers, looking at and trying on about fifty of them. And I found that a 'Large' size eg, isn't uniform across all of the different brands like you say. Glad I didn't make a rash decision there. I'll get back to the lid problem another time.

I went with Phoenix in Whitchurch. It's not their fault I had to use a moped, it was more to do with my nerves and inability to listen to simple things. It all came together on the road, which I found to be a piece of cake.
Slaloming around cones and doing figures of eight dead slow on a car park is a lot harder than it looks (if you're not used to it of course)

I'll go with them again when I do my mods, I was quite happy with them.

Well done on the CBT!

I used kickstart in keynsham and they were excellent - calm throughout despite me dropping the 125 on the practice on the morning session Embarassed

I too spent hours in Fowlers sizing up for helmets..... I guess it's a rite of passage!! I've spent many happy hours getting to know my 125 Smile enjoy the journey.......

Cautious newbie...... (CBT Oct-15) riding a Honda CB125F to get some experience. Theory test done in March). Now looking to do DAS, just gotta find the right training centre.....
