There is a new bike cafe and 'hangout' just opened up in Shoreditch in London called Bike Shed Motorcycle Club. Link below.

I popped in briefly yesterday whilst passing with the mrs and had a look around and checked out the bikes on show and some of the gear. It reminded me a little like those All Saints shops with darkish lighting, exposed brick walls etc. The venue is situated in arches from (I assume) disused railway.

Gear itself cateres toward the cafe racer and fashion oriented bikers. For example there were Belstaff waxed jackets, gringo helmets etc which are quite middle to top of price range for gear.

Large seating area for the cafe and even a barber shop inside.

I'm sure it won't be to everyone's taste, but it fits in well with the Shoreditch hipster scene if that's your cup of tea, so I think it will draw a certain crowd.

I noticed it riding past there (or rather sitting in gthe usual traffic jam) on Friday. Used to be a five-a-side club didn't it? Not suprised by the Bohemian theme, very Shoreditch! I might take a look if I can be arsed with the walk from Leadenhall one lunchtime.

(Will they let me in as I'm well over 20y/o and don't wear black drainpipe jeans and pointy shoes Shocked )

Looks more like some pretentious wine bar can't see any beer pumps or pint glasses for that reason I won't be going Neutral

Look at the menu.

Fancy something on toast? Sorry, no beans, but you can have Portobello Mushrooms for £7 or Avocado, crushed with chilli cashews for £6.50.
Or a bacon sarnie? The do a Bike Shed "Bacon" & Egg Sarnie (their quotes) featuring 18 hour slow cooked pork belly for a mere £8.50.

I suspect they aren't expecting to be the cafe stop of choice for normal riders; if you're not a Shoreditch hipster there's not a lot there.

That's probably why they were employing a poorly paid dog's body recently - to do a load of fake likes.

Was amused when the small local climbing wall I used to go to in West Yorks said they'd do something when they reached a certain figure of likes.
You used to be able to see where the likes were coming from and most of the people were in Indonesia!

That is so Shoreditcheratti that surely it's crossed the line into ironic post modernism. Thinking

If you're going to buy likes then:

a) I can get you a better price.

and

b) Do at least make it a believable amount. Laughing

What it doesnt mention is that, aside from having to shell out £125 for "membership", you also have to have a chronic wanker's hipster beard and either a top knot or man bun hairstyle to get in.

I could belive the bike shed made it to half a million likes. They are behind the bike shed shows, have been on the custom blogs for years, and are all members of the instagram marketing generation.

I like looking at their bikes, and loved seeing what's at the shows, but it is largely young people with more money than sense. The cafe just caters to that crowd.

I'd rather eat a cold bowl of dog shit than join that bunch of hipster faggots.

A barbers shop. At a bike meet.

Words fucking fail me.

Edit:- it just gets even more homosex.

Quote:
Behaviour
We expect the same gentlemanly behaviour we get at all our meets and events, so the club is not a place to show of your stunting skills, or how loud your new exhaust pipe is. It’s also not a place for stag parties or binge-drinking nights out with the lads. We have residential neighbours and are in a high pressure area for public nuisance and disorder, so it’s up to us to show that bikers are a cool but considerate community. If you wanna rev hard, showboat your skills or demonstrate how long you you can hold it on the back wheel that’s up to you, but please do it somewhere else. If you think this is naff or lame, please don’t join. If you get us in trouble with neighbours or the law we’ll have to ask you to leave the club.

Then you cant buy a beer without buying an overpriced avocado and feta goats anus salad with a side of instagram.

Seriously?

This is a biker cafe/hangout

Confused I thought that was motorcycle culture

I didn't think anything could be more depressing than the barbers in the harley store at M&P. But this truly makes me want to TOANTSFO.

So basically it's an overpriced gentlemen's club with a motorbike theme?

As I live local I might join if they ask nicely and waive the membership fee but doubt I would ever attend as I would feel out of place what with actually owning several motorcycles and riding them as well as knowing how to use a spanner.

It's all the faux gentlemanlyness of steampunk mixed with the hipster sockless wearing faggotry of shoreditch. Added to the fact they can now make their steampunk wet dreams into moving "cafe racers" while jizzing to the latest Iwatch on instagram.

I've not had chance to pop by yet, so will reserve judgement. However, on first impressions:-

A motorcycle thing that is different to the traditional motorcycle culture that has been the mainstay for years and years:- A brave attempt to open up and broaden motorcycle culture to more people? Or a very silly thing to do, because you don't happen to like it?

A bar in Shoreditch that doesn't sell dirty instant coffee & crappy greasy bacon butties for pennies and actually charges a few quid for stuff:- A realistic profit margin given the crazy London real estate prices in the trendiest and most up-coming area of Zone-1? Or just very silly they're not selling what you happen to like for no money?

A biker cafe that doesn't want idiots stunting outside their premises:- A sensible thing to do to stay in business after putting in a shed load of investment, especially considering the Ace Cafe is close to being shut down due to idiots fecking about outside it? Or just a very silly rule to spoil all the fun?

A biker cafe with a barber on site:- Errm, yeah, this is perhaps a bit silly...

It may not necessarily be a scene I'd identify with, but it looks like a place that'd be alright to pop by and have a drink at. They've obviously put a shit load of investment and work in to the place. It's the right place for such a bar. I wish 'um luck and respect the effort that goes into starting, running and making profitable a business like this.

If a pair of hipster cunts can charge £4 for a bowl of cereal in he same area, this will be a hit.

For me, riding a motorcycle isn't a lifestyle choice, it's a tool, a work horse. Maybe a way to escape for a weekend away in the summer...

Turning up on a bright green Versys in some shabby HG textiles would no doubt be frowned upon, especially as a soon as I take out my non-iPhone.

I'd be the same, turning up in my manky hi viz and a just as manky if not more, 20 year old ZZR6. They'd have the shutters down before I took my gloves off.

I suspect they'll ban real bikers, the delicate blend of road dirt, EP90 and tar spots I'm usually adorned with would bugger up their posh rugs in no time.
