I just fitted a mottobat to my K1300.
Works a treat.
Fitted last month. Was purchased in Julaugust and sat in the garage 100% neglecteded.
Hooked up, punched the start button and the beast burst into life like a new thing.
There are some 'bad' reviews but I think they are simply 'bad reviews'. One must take some reviews with a large hand full of salt.
People need to start doing more good reviews and not just 'complaints'. ____________________ Disclaimer: The comments above may be predicted text and not necessarily the opinion of MCN. |

If you have power to wher ethe bike is 'stored' buy a battery maintenancererer. (ctek are very good.) Hook that up to the battery and let it take care of it for you.
You don't need to drain the fuel tank. Just brimm it with petrol.
The inlet and exhaust is blocked to prevent moisture laden air getting to the internals of the engine. there will always be a valve open on a multi-cyclinder engine (almost). and air will get to it.
You can also stop things crawling it too.
Tape up the air inlet and the zorst pipe outlet should be fine.
Also put tons of air in the tyres to keep them from 'setting' in a shape when the bike is resting on them. 60psi. Or use a centre/paddock/ two axle stand/s.
Starting the bike and running it for a wee bit can exacerbate the moisture issue. Fuel is a hydrocarbon. During combustion you split the hydrocarbon molecules into water and hydrogen components. The hydrogen burns off as energy but the some of it combines with oxygen and makes H2O water. This is normally fired out the exhaust and as the engine heats up any condensation from this burns off and goes out too. The 'smoke' you see on starting a cold engine. It is water vapour from combustion you made. As the exhaust gets hotter the vapour turns to steam. (Invisible Gas).
The vapour you don;t burn off will be trapped in the engine if you don't get it hot. i.e. hot enough to open the thermostat.
But in doing this you will waste a lot of fuel and un-burned fuel is bad for the engine too.
Just don't do it. |
I have an optimiser, the problem is I bought it too late, i.e the battery can't be saved. (My own fault) Maxes out at 12.6v.
Tank is full.
Interesting about the tyres, will do!
And very interesting point about starting, your saying I'm better off just leaving it a few months?
Cheers!
So.. Do I buy OEM Yuasa or Motobatt? ____________________ 07' Honda Hornet now full powaah! My guide on performing an oil change! |

For your sanity and POM Yuasa will help you to sleep at night.
I Put a Yuasa in my litre bike as that is what was in from factory.
I bought it from a Honda Dealer's ebay site. Cheaper that anyone.
The above Batteries should be AGM
They are more reliable and you'll get more turns with it.
There is a very expensive battery some people boast about called Odesey. They are probably good batteries but they are about 30% more expensive when compared to Yuasa. (Motobatt prices are comparable to Yuasa) ____________________ Disclaimer: The comments above may be predicted text and not necessarily the opinion of MCN. |

I also have positive experience with the Motobatt. Bought it for my mate's fireblade, the battery still holds the charge well, even after 2 months it still has got enough power to start the bike. ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

You lot don't half make decisions easy.
£60.95 Yuasa
OR
£52.50 Motobatt.
Makes sense to just go OEM, have a £30 paypal voucher anyway so that's half price already.
Cheers.
My next post will probably be with acid covered hands. ____________________ 07' Honda Hornet now full powaah! My guide on performing an oil change! |

I've also had a motobatt fail
But I've got a Yusuaua that I want to make sweet love to, for allowing me to crank the 650 a hundred times before I got it going again on the wrong side of the channel tunnel - attempting to get home. I did make it home, but following that debacle I left the bike untouched for 2months. I then decided to charge the battery, considering I'd allowed the motobatt to "die" after a similar spell. It took 30seconds for the charger to declare "wtf it's already charged m8"
Tbf to the motobatt, it did have to endure some funky electrical (R/R) issues as well as sitting for a longish period (3/4 months maybe). Didn't want to come back to life at all after that though. I'm a bit stricter in topping the bastards up now.
And just to get all the facts out for this useless anecdotal information the Yuasa is a VRLA battery, not gel.
Also also, ebay seems to be on the go slow for me an' all, which is why i'm procrastinating here instead. ____________________ '90 VFR750; '89 NC30; '95 DR650; '89 CD250U; ~'82 CG125; ~C90 |
