Right so ill try and keep it short.

Recently my bike started cutting in and out of power (like your opening and closing the throttle constantly) followed by cutting out completely and needing a restart. The bike would struggle to start or would cut out again a second later.

I got someone to have a look and they cleaned the fuel injection but it still happened. They unplugged the battery and when they plugged it back in the neutral light was not working and the bike would not start with the side stand down. After this the bike was fine to ride, no cutting out or anything.

So today i took the bike in to a garage to get the neutral like switch replace and the ignition coil. On my way back home the bike started cutting out again Sad. So i rolled it back to the garage and explained this all and the mechanic disconnected the neutral light switch but the bike still cuts out.

They are keeping my bike in and have said they will revert the ignition coil change and see if that fixes it.

Does anyone have the slightest idea what could be wrong here?Cheers.

Ignition Coil. Shocked

The coils can suddenly lose insulation and the energy required to drive the spark leaks to ground before it gets pumped along the HT lead to the sparking plug.
Not uncommon.

'They' like to blame pressure washers for blasting water into electrics.

I blame poor manufacturing standards.

I had two Triumph ST bike and had to replace three coil units on one bike at about 4000 miles and two on my second bike at about 6000 miles.

Since I went away from Triumph I haven't had to replace any and I have owned Five bikes since. Smile

Not ruling out the CDI.

The guys in the garage are reverting what they have done to see if it works again. They said it could be costly to fix because they will need to check all the wiring and i might need a new wiring loom harness.

Ive got a brand new ignition coil in but its happened with both my old and new ignition coil :/

Right so the garage phoned me and they have put the old ignition coil back in and the bike is working fine again now.

Its weird that it was happening before with the old coil and then the neutral light switch broke. Then it happened with the new coil, only difference is this time the bike was just cutting out and not being choppy on the throttle and being hard to restart.

Anyone know why this could be?

Yes. The side stand switch cuts the ignition in certain circumstances and a dirty or shagged one will do funny things.
