Rear brake pedal

I have a wr 125 x and i am 6ft4 with size 15 feet. i have adjusted my rear brake pedal as far as it goes down but its still way to high for me. is there anything i can do or buy which will lower it loads to work with my big feet properly. cheeers

Hang on a minute.........."size 15 feet"? What!

I had a mate with a similar problem once, he used to cut his levers in half and insert a section to make them longer.
Some levers will bend safely with a bit of heat, it depends on what they're made of. Off road ones tend to be cut from steel with a pedal welded on the end for this very reason but most can only bend sideways...not up and down. It shouldn't cost too much to get a fabricator to modify yours, it's just a case of finding one locally.

BTW...is this a Yamaha WR125 or Husqvarna? If Yammy, you can definitely have a small section welded into the original lever. My bloke would charge me about £20...maybe £30 if he's having a bad day. I'd buy a used one and get that done......then keep the other for when you sell the bike.

I'm a bit puzzled how having long feet means the brake pedal is too high?

When riding are your heels on the foot pegs or your toes? You are meant to ride with toes on the pegs and move foot when you need to change gear or use rear brake.

I do put my toes on the foot pegs but because the pedal is so high and my feet are so big when i try to break i can only reach it with the back or the back left side of my foot. This makes it a pain to use the back brake from having to move my foot a lot. Also its a Yamaha wr 125 x and its the only bike i can ride till i'm 19 which is in 2 years . So i need to somehow make the brake pedal go down loads and out more to soot me. A big part of it is because i'm 6ft4 my leg bends a hell of a lot making my feet almost pointing down, which i think is the main bit, and even on s1000r's and the hyabusa (which i've sat on) all have the same problem, because my legs are very very very long and my feet are so big, cheers

I guess it's like people 5'4" who don't like riding m'bikes purely because the frames are built for average Joe. 5'10 (don't quote me)

I use BMWs which have some adjustment for seat height but they are not perfect either.

It is a major critique of motorcycle industry. They don't offer much 'custom' features. I wonder how much of the market the lose?

You should modify the lever if it helps.
But you will find that the back brake (BRAKE) offers very little 'stopping' effect. All the 'mass' acts in a forwards direction when you decelerate.
So a better modification would be to ensure the front brake is as good as you can get it.

Another suggestion would be to lift the seat up somehow. If you have a local bike shop they could/should advise. Even a main dealer could advise too.

Edit: If you lift the seat you will lift your Center of Gravity too. That can affect the handling to a degree. But not to an extent that is poses any 'danger' so long as you don't go mental with the mod.
If you lift the seat it will also push your weight more forward onto the handle bars. That may mean you need to lift the bars up too.

Never mind the brake, how the hell do you change gear? Do you take your foot of the peg? I've seen people do that before.

I think having the lever altered is your best bet.....but you may be able to find a footpeg that would fit further back and/or get that altered too but brake lever isn't hard at all - a welder could do that in 20 mins - half hour. Do you have any friendly car body shops nearby? Get talking to some of the blokes working there, they'll do it for you for a packet of fags if they're the good sort The new lever may look a bit scruffy but, if welded right, it'll be safe as houses

i wear massive boots so i can change gear fine but even if i went bare foot i still wouldn't be able to comfortably use the back brake no matter what. i don't really know any welders near me and wouldn't it make the bike look a little scruffy when i want to sell it. So is there nothing i can buy which will help with my problem ?

Anywhere between £10 and £30 if you ask in the right place. Get the lever first so you can show them, use a marker pen to draw a line on the lever where you want it cutting and a piece putting in...and how much longer you want it because they most likely won't know where to put the extension in. I'd tell them you would prefer the toe part to be slightly lower....about 1/2 inch to 1 inch. If you go round the back of a body-shop or something like that, try to ask when the gaffer isn't around I know it can be a bit intimidating to ask at places like this but most places don't mind and they can only tell you to fu** off. A friendly welder is worth his weight in gold.
Try a wanted ad on here, there may be someone that can help you out. Can't hurt can it?
