Hi

I need to replace the Brake Operating Arm (7) and the Brake cam (5) from the backplate assembly but i cant separate the two, they seem bonded together.

Anybody got any ideas?

Open up the top of the arm (7) just a little so that the teeth come off the splines - I'd probably use a flatheaded screwdriver. It'll just be corrosion, many of them never get taken off. A spray of penetrating lube or Plusgas or whatever wouldn't go amiss either.

They do separate, promise!

:D sounds like your gunna have loads of "fun" with this bike, take your time, as this little problem is probably the least of your worries!

Does the arm/cam rotate in the back plate or is it solid?

Be careful with heat as the felt seal will burnt and don't mangle the indicator plate.

See the dots?? and notice the blind splines etc.

How's the rear cush drive, cam chain, balance chain and ignition??

Avoid at all costs the need to remove the cylinder head as the 4 centre heads bolts are a real bad can of horrible worms sometimes.

Any oil leaks between the cylinders??

What the others said about the large flat-head screwdriver, however a few squirts of 3-in-1 a couple of hours before you try to separate them might be a good idea Thumbs Up

yeah, the guys i use just do motorcycles. to be honest ive stripped it completely and apart from the stuck back plate assembly the only other things ive discovered is a bolt instead of a stud into the cylinder head, quick fix, and today i found out that the right hand exhaust is a flexible pipe, never seen that before!!

As I am also the proud owner of an old CB 250n , you have now peaked my interest, and that means you must start adding some pictures to this thread.
