I need a pair of bike boots that are actually 100% waterproof. Does anyone know of any? Cheers.

Alpinestars S-MX 5 WP

For £150 you cannot find better protection and waterproof boots.

General concerned consensus seems to be that the only properly waterproof boots are either wellingtons, or daytona bike boots.

The daytona's will set you back around £300 for a new set, and I don't fancy wellies in a crash Laughing

That is not true at all. General consesus my ass. I disagree for example Laughing

Ride with A* S-MX 5 WP all year round summer and winter and have not got even a drop of water. Half the price of Daytona's Laughing

Immediately comfortable.

Your opinion does not general consensus make!

I ride around in second hand £30 boots that do me fine most of the time, but pretty much every time I've looked for the best possible waterproof boots, Daytona have been the boot of choice for a decent chunk of people.

A little like rukka for textiles.

The thing with Alt-Berg is that they are made by bootmakers who also make proper military, police and hiking boots. They aren't a "fashion" brand, and they certainly won't look the part on MotoGP circuit. They also don't make gloves, jackets, t-shirts or anything else. They just make boots, in Yorkshire rather than a sweatshop in some third world country (although, being from Lancashire originally, I do think of Yorkshire as being a third world county). They are properly waterproof, comfortable, warm and you can walk in them. That's the reason a lot of tourers, Police riders etc. wear them.

I ride in all weathers, the closest I've come to even vaguely damp feet in them was due to sweat when wearing them for a long walk during the summer. It's nice to be able to turn up somewhere, get of the bike and just walk, rather than having to change boots.

Depends how strict you are on them being "bike" boots.

Gore-Tex lined army surplus boots, £30 delivered.

Mine are now 5 years old and have been worn very nearly every day, on and off the bike, in all weathers, including slogging ankle deep through a highland peat bog in a lashing gale. They are now close to wearing through the soles, but have never let in a single drop of water[*].

You can pay 6 times as much to add some ankle support but I would be astonished if you'll find anything more waterproof.

[*] Barring one freak incident where I jetted a deep puddle right up inside my elasticated trouser cuff and it bounced back down inside the boot.

Been using these for last year, and S-MX 4 waterproofs before that. Only leak I ever had was on the SMX4's when I finally wore right through the soles.

Both pairs were ~£50 second hand. Just don't get mixed up with the non waterproof SMX boots...

Daytona in my opinion. never a drop let in and warm (non stop GTX) 10 years old and still going strong.

My Black Rains started leaking after about 8 months (~16,000 miles) in heavy rain. Fine for short runs or mildly damp, but I got wet toes in harsher conditions, and the soles had started to wear through - hence going for the Alt-Berg. Pottering about town doing short rides they'd have been fine.

I exchanged a pair of RST Tracktech waterproof boots because they got waterlogged. I paid the extra and came home with Sidi B2 Goretex. I have had them around 16 months now and the only bit of water that got into them in all that time has been when I got saturated and it ran down my leg into my boot. I have ridden in what can only be described as low cloud and torrential rain and the feet have been fine. They size very small though so try a pair on before buying.

Ever since my last boots were cut off me I've worn Sidi Courier boots in all full on downpours and not even got slightly wet. Might be that I wear textiles over the top but it works well for me. Lasted 3 years so far with no problems.

They're currently back with sports bike direct under warranty.

I've worn a pair of these pretty much every day for the last 18 months, they still look new, they don't stink and they still haven't ever left me with wet feet.

Also on occasion when I've worked at a different sites and not taken a change of footwear I've worn them for the whole day, they are not perfect for this but certainly not as uncomfortable as other boots I've had.

Whoa there! Motorcycle boots with laces? Not for me, thanks. Not since my newbie days when I wore walking boots. One day I was slowing for a zebra crossing, went to put my foot down but the boot lace looped round the footpeg so I couldn't reach the floor. I had to let the clutch out and weave past the old woman on the crossing who, it turned out, had the cussing vocabulary of a sailor. Fair do's.

Anyhow, since then I've had Sidi, Oxtar and Falco. They were all waterproof but due to the overall quality I'll be going back to Sidi next time, probably Black Rain again, although they were quite a narrow fit.

If you go for a boot with Gore-Tex you’ll rarely be disappointed, except potentially at the emptiness of your wallet.

I’ve used a pair of Sidi B2 Gores almost every day for 6 years and have just replaced them with a new pair. The old ones were still comfy and secure, but the membrane has failed so they leak in really wet weather and the soles were nearly worn through. However I do walk a mile every day in my boots so they take a beating. They were 100% waterproof for at least 5 years, hence the replacement with the same model.

However the new ones have a significant flaw where the soles appear to turn into Teflon at the slightest drop of liquid. Not a great feature of a wet weather boot. I’m hoping they wear in and start gripping, but after a month of daily use they’re still a bit treacherous in the rain.

I also bought a pair of the British Army cold weather boots, but never got on with them. I found that the way the tongue folded would dig into my shin and virtually cripple me after a few hours. Having read up on how fast they wear in it appears that you are expected to man up and deal with it. It’s more about wearing in your leg than wearing in the boot. No wonder I’ve seen so many folk wearing them partially unlaced. Maybe mine are cheap knock offs, but if they’re genuine I think the design can be improved.

You do have to be careful and tie them off so there is no danger of getting caught. Conversely, both zip pulls failed within 6 months on my Black Rains and ended up with zip ties as replacements, one zip completely failed on Mrs bamt's boots (don't remember the brand off hand). I'd take laces that you take some care with over fragile zips any day.
