HJC RPHA 10 Plus

Went to the NEC Bike Show yesterday. Been on the market for a new lid for a while and was hoping to get a good deal at the show but that didn't happen. Quick googling shows better deals online.

Anyway I got to finally try on the HJC RPHA 10 Plus and loved it. Fit was like a [head] glove, super comfortable, light and excellent visibility.

Have read various reviews and thoughts on this helmet, a lot on this forum in fact. But not seen much commentary on this helmets ability in the rain? does anyone have any insight or experience of this helmet in the rain? Are the seals around the visor good? What's the ventilation like and does it fog? Does water get in through the vents?

As a comparison, my AGV K3SV starts to let water in through the visor seals after around 15 minutes in the rain. It's so annoying as you end up with streaks of water and fog right on the line of sight.

I can only mention I've had an HJC FG ST for about 6 weeks, which has a similar visor, and to be honest I've been disappointed.

I can't operate the visor lock / unlock mechanism with winter gloves on, which is downright dangerous on the motorway. The latch seems stupidly overdesigned, maybe so they can charge 40 quid for a spare visor. It's also been really bad for letting rain in the inner side of the visor when open a crack. The pinlock works ok. Maybe your model is better at preventing rain entering.

On the plus side it looks cool, and is reasonably quiet. But I actually far preferred my previous helmet, which was 1/4 the price... go figure.

I've asked the same question before here, as you'll see only one review on the RPHA 10 rather than the plus, unless anyone has picked one up recently. I purchased the RPHA ST again instead as my head didn't suit the shape of the 10 plus, guy at J&S said you either usually fit one or the other on those two models so cannot help any further.

Take a look at the sharp rating, three stars but the difference in side impact ratings raised my eyebrows.

Lids direct was the cheapest website I came across when looking and sold it with a free tinted visor and pinlock (or it was advertised as), also they advertise as including the chin curtain whereas when I tried it on in J&S they sold it without.

edit: try sportsbikeshop and look for reviews on the website, maybe google as well?

I looked into getting a new helmet last week. Was going to get the HJC RPHA 10 plus until I saw the 3 star sharp rating.

Went for a HJC IS-17 instead

I've got 4 HJC RPHA10+....they fit my head perfectly and you get some real bargains at Lids Direct...I keep giving in and buying new ones!!
..got 3 of the Lorenzo ones....The Lorenzo, Lorenzo Ghost and the graffiti....also got a red white blue one which I got for a bargain £120.

I love everything about them..although one 'slight' issue I have is with pinlock inserts...in really cold weather they all seem to fog up in the top middle/right..and I can only think it's something to do with the ridge on the inside which is somehow not allowing a perfect seal.

Other than that they are good vfm.

I got my one from lids direct eBay during the 20% discount day on eBay for £98. The value for money on these helmets is very high and I've had no issues with it. Fits like a glove and is very quiet and comfortable. Fully recommend it

I've stuck with HJC despite a few forays with other manufacturers (Shark, Shoei, Bell). I find they fit me well and are reasonably quiet.

I do agree that some of the visor locking arrangements left something to be desired on the olser models, but the modern ones I find are fine.

You don't get to be the worlds largest helmet manufacturer without getting something right.

I've got one too. It's a great helmet - the only downside is that the visor bracket is a little brittle, mine has broken twice since I bought it in February.

So in a nutshell no one has really had extensive use of this helmet in the rain. This is the only thing holding me back from ordering this lid right now. I was really disappointed with my AGV when on the first time I used it in the rain the seals failed. Don't want the same issue if I can avoid it.

The alternative is the Arai Rebel.

Very rare for anyone to have problems at J&S Stockwell, good bunch of chaps there. Always happy to help even if they know you will go elsewhere to actually buy because they know you will come back and that if you come back you will at some point buy.

People should just buy Arai's. No one was ever unhappy when they bought an Arai.

I'm not one given to telling porkies James. At least one of them there needs an education is listening to the customer - I had to walk away from this guy in the end.

Can't really take a new Arai onto a building site and leave it in the drying room, unless you want to buy a couple a week.

ive got the older rpha10, almost 3 years old. when sat in stationary traffic whilst chucking it down it does mist up a bit, fitting a pin lock would solve this tho i just open the visor whilst waiting instead. other than that very good helmet and ill be getting a new lorenzo ghost or graffiti model after christmas
