Unique Property Bulletin

This is interesting and you can sign up free for the monthly email. There's a FB page too. Opportunities to day dream and imagine what you might do if you bought a lighthouse keepers cottage for £80K, a redundant nuclear bunker or an abandoned church for conversion (Bubbs?).

Who'll be the first BCFer on Grand Designs?

Interesting looking website.

It might be a valuable resource for a film location director (a job that fascinates me, I always want to know how they find places...)

But stuff going on Grand Designs: I wouldn't want to go on the telly.

The whole point of "normal" people being on the telly is for the presenters to bounce off their perceived dorkyness and appear smug as a result.

I'm out.

More seriously, there are a couple of nice curiosities on that site.

The worrying thing about Grand Designs is that the women always seem to get pregnant once Kevin is on the scene, sometimes more than once.

The best episodes are the ones where the house owners aren't very well off and have to get creative/clever. The episodes with smug rich people are a proper turn-off.

I've always fancied renovating a gothic cemetery gate-house. At least the neighbours would be quiet!

I want to see people building a house, not commissioning one.

You got more of that in the early series. These days it's just "look how much money I've got".

Indeed.

The RIBA House of the Year (bought to TV via a spin off Grand Designs series) was/is owned by Lord Rothschild.

Whilst I appreciate the award is based on the building/architect, not the owner, you do wonder why the house funded by a seemingly bottomless pit of cash won...

Money buys you everything it seems... The building is hideous as well!
