 |
|
Hello all.
Long time no post!
So, went to see Disclosure Saturday night in Manchester. We're in Sheffield. Me and the gf get open returns hoping to get a train before midnight. Silly us don't check last train times (though it seems Saturday night has the earliest last train! WTF?!)
So we're like, shit. Look at other potential ways of getting back, or hotel etc. There's no buses or trains until 6am, Hotel/similar would be near £100 for the night and we both wear monthly contact lenses and no way of buying a case and solution, meaning either sleep with them in or lose them...
So we check uber. Eventually we decide to use it and get the fare estimate of £50 - £80. Fine, fair enough.
Get the cab and start making our merry way. About 5/10 minutes in starts asking about the normal way to get to Sheffield... Thought that would be obvious! He starts chatting to a colleague in their language so obvously don't understand a thing. Later on says the snake pass has been closed because of high wind? Apparently, his colleague had to turn back and then get on the m62. So that's the way we head. M62 was closed off a certain portion so we get a detour and then back on it and then straight to Sheffield.
Ended up with a bill for £107 and it took early 2 hours to get back.
I've attached the map of the route he took us...
When he first mentioned the pass being closed because of high wind, I found it a bit weird. I googled it and have found no mention ever of the pass being closed because of wind? Only ever because of accidents or road works. But there seems to be no mention of the pass having been closed Saturday night.
As I'm not a local (gf is at uni in Sheffield, I live in Watford) I know basically nothing, so before I go to Uber with this, is the pass generally closed for reasons like this? Or even any other road? I;ve seen signs before, but never a closed road... ____________________ '99 Hornet 600 , VFR 400 NC30 '92 , Kasawamasaki GT 550 , '98 Hornet 600

He did cut the corner off through Huddersfield to join the M62, gone an odd way into Manchester in my opinion, I would have come off the M62 towards Oldham and dropped down that way to avoid the roadworks on the M'way instead of turning North off the M'way
I'd have then cut into Manchester directly from there instead of driving half way round it just to use Mancunian Way.
Other than the bits you might not know without a spot of local knowledge he's not done you too bad.
I live North of Manchester and my parent's live North of Sheffield so I'm familiar with a few routes back and forth ____________________ Looking to pass your CBT / Bike tests in Bury Lancashire? try www.focusridertraining.co.uk Would recommend.

When I read of the OP's plight, I was genuinely troubled....So much so that I made a few calls and the outcome is that me and a few buddies are considering bunging a tunnel under The Pennines to ensure that The OP is never similarly inconvenienced. ____________________ A good loser will always be a loser. |

£6bn to get from Manchester to Sheffield faster - surely money could be better spent elsewhere. I'd rather peeps set off half an hour earlier than the Government spunks £6bn of my money on what I can only assume is a sweetener to a non-tory demographic. ____________________ Now - Speed Triple, old ratty GS550, GSXR750M

Tunnels worry me. All it would take is those nice chaps from IS to jack-knife a waggon full of toxic, flammable shit at either end, set them alight then sit back and watch the fumes do Allah's work. Not a good idea... ____________________ Now - Speed Triple, old ratty GS550, GSXR750M
