Upgrading from an XJ6...

With the new year looming, I'm somewhat thinking it may be a good idea to "upgrade " my XJ-6 Diversion next year to something with a bigger engine (I'm pretty happy with the physical size of the bike itself). Question is, to what?

So for anybody that's in the past owned a Divvie, and replaced it with something else, I was wondering what you got, why you got it, and what you think of it?

Well like many other Divvy owners (from forums as well as personal info) I got a Kawasaki Versys.
Great bike, much better than the Divvy in all area's.

Go to dealership look at bikes, try bikes, buy bike.

FZ8, not different enough, go FZ1. Cool

To be honest, it depends on you and what bike you want next.

Like the XJ6, just want more power? Then FZ1, or XSR9?

Want to try a sports bike? R6/GSXR750

Want to go slower, and grow a beard? Bonneville

FZ1 very near the top of the list actually and seems to be a very common recommendation on this thread. Unfortunately they surprisingly don't seem to be that common on the second hand market, so might take a while to find a good one.

LOL, If I followed my heart, I'd probably get an R1 as someone suggests above Twisted Evil. Ahem... Embarassed seriously though, originally I was thinking I really wanted an MT09 Tracer, but I'm put off by the seat height, for some reason they have a really high seat (thing I love about the Divvie, is I can comfortably flat foot it). Basically I think I want something that has those type of looks (I like the Japanese style sleek dark city sports bike type look, if that makes sense - and gotta come in black Smile), with a bit more agility and low rev torque. Yeah, that's pretty much the sort of thing I'm after. Doesn't look like they've been manufactured for a while though, what is realistically the most recent year I'm going to get on the second hand market at a decent price / mileage?

They only stopped recently I believe, so you can still get a modern one.

Mine is 2008 model which I picked up for a good price of £3200 just 4 months ago, with 17k on the clocks.

They hold their value it seems as they're not so common, as you say, and even less so ragged about as it's not a hooning 'sports bike' like an R6 / R1.

Hey all.

So, after a lot of research, I'm sort of leaning towards the idea of getting a New bike that I'll keep for a few years (yes, I'm aware of depreciation, risk of theft, etc., it's the heart that'd be buying though, what can you do).

Somewhat left field, but right now I'm actually leaning towards a VFR800, as I like the look, and want something a bit beefier than my 600cc, but can't really see myself getting the most out of a 1L+ bike on the road.

Has anybody got any experiences of those and what they're like? The reviews seem positive, but I've stopped trusting professional car or bike reviews a long time ago.
