Went for a quick blast on the bike (the bike is a zx6r B1H) yesterday took it up to about 150ish for only about 20-30 seconds before I turned of at my slip road when i noticed the bike did not sound normal.

Now the bike already ticks a little bit which I'm told is normal on the B1H but now it just sounds like the cam chain is very loose but just want to be certain, ive put a video up so you get a better idea

Definitely sounds a bit chainy when you give it a rev.
Sudden tensioner failure?

Looks like a spring loaded jobbie, same as mine. An easy replacement.
Although, it does look a bit flimsy which might suggest it has snapped or the spring has gone.
I'd be checking that out asap as I wouldn't want the 'foot' of the tensioner rattling around inside the housing with the chain/cogs.

Nothing like a good bit of scaremongering, eh? Wink

It's about as simple as a replacement part can get. You might not even need to remove the fairing.

It has more than one.

Sounds pretty poorly.

I would like to know how they came to that conclusion though.

Have you done the old screwdriver to your ear trick to try and pinpoint where the noise is coming from? What's your oil level like?

How the bloody hell can he know the crank isn't scored without having it in bits (unless he has x-ray vision or is using the force)?

If it has shat a big end bearing you'll be better off slinging in a new motor.

Bike needs a new engine Sad

Found one with 780 miles from new. £450

Labour is £210 that includes diagnosis of the fault, fitting the engine, oil and coolant.

Chap i bought it from feels that guilty he is footing £250 towards the cost Thumbs Up

Merry Christmas to me Rolling Eyes

Are you sure about that labour rate? That is INSANELY cheap. Even for an experienced mechanic I'd say striping a bike, removing the engine, fitting a new one and putting it all back together is the best part of a day for 2 people. Plus oil and coolant will be ~£40.

I recently swapped my TDM engine, I did have to take the new engine out and I rebuilt the forks but still it took us Friday 6-10 Saturday 11-8 and then me on my own 6 hours on the Sunday.

Granted we aren't experienced and didn't have the set up, if we did it again it'd probably not need the Sunday but I can't see a mechanic charging £210 including fluids and work already done.

I only bought the bike about 3 weeks ago, the mechanic who is doing the work is a good friend of the chap i bought it from..i think with his guilt he has probably asked him for a favour so mates rates.

Woah... From the 'mechanic' mate of the seller?

FTR:
There are very, very few reasons for big end (and even main bearing) failure/s.

Lack of lubrication is the primary reason.
In no particular order.
Either from insufficient oil in the sump, due to neglect during 'normal' use 'i.e. not checking oil level frequently or properly. Tut Tut
Massive sudden loss of oil from a burst/broken hose/line cover.
The wrong grade of oil.
Oil contaminated with fuel.
Dirt in oil.
Blocked Oil Ports.

All of the above are mostly 'maintenance' issues. Sad

Unlikely to have been caused or manifestateded in the three weeks you have owned the bike. (even if you ragged the nuts off it in it's short life.)

Unless it can be shown that there is a manufacturing defect. Which is not impossibru.

Though it seems 'your men' have stepped up to remedy the wrongs.

I hope they get it all sorted out for you. Thumbs Up

Yes when i say mate, they are friends through business as he would do engine work for there race team.

Yeah it all is a bit shit..the chap has owned the bike 5 years and had no problems with it, all the service history is there and it was serviced before i bought it so was not expecting this to happen.
The previous owner is actually gutted about what's happened so i think he's just tried to reduce the ass rape for me as little as possible.
