A local lad about my age (19) parked up next to my bike and said "are you gonna race me then"

He was on a Honda XR 125 and I am on my kawasaki ER-5

I said no as there is a few villages from the town I was at (bedale) to my local town (northallerton) which are 30mph zones mainly untill you get into the country bit then you have to slow down again for the next village.

I said I would follow him back but I was not racing and not exceeding 30mph zones as I am not loosing my licence or getting in a dangerous position with a car.

anyways we set off and he the most loonatic rider I have ever seen he will get himself killed on that bike. so we got out of the 30mph zone and he attempted to loose me.

I sailed passed him with great ease when I got the chance (cars on both sides of the road so ovetaking opertunities didnt arise too much)

and he proceeds too overtake between the gap of the car infront and the oncoming car in order to catch up Shocked .

we then got too the next 30mph zone to which I slowed down and he was RIGHT behind me so I pulled over and waved him past as he was going to cause an accident and I would rather see what he was doing.

so he carries on his dangerous overtaking maneuvers (overtaking a car that is doing 60mph on a 4t 125 so basically getting too 65mph and attempting to pass complete idiot.

so we get back into northallerton and I let him stay infront as it was a dangerous position to be in would be infront of him as with idiots like that its best being able to see what they are doing.

We park up and he then proceeded to tell me that when his XR125 is DE-restricted it will do 120mph! (i didnt realise that is was possible to de-restrict a 4t 125 engine that only produces 8.3KW of power can be de-restricted to reach speeds of 120mph)

friggin idiot.

I really want him to walk into a bike place and ask for it to be de-restricted and watch them laugh at him.

Also he informed me that as he has his CBT and is over 18 he can take pillions legally allthough he is on L plates.

well you learn something new every day.

I shouldnt have bothered getting my licence when I could carry pillions and ride a 120mph 4t 125 as I am over 18 and would have a CBT! Laughing

Gilera runner featured on (twist & go) scooter magazine.
Rossi rep the boy work's down near me anyone know west wickem near croydon.

I'm honeslty not lyin, Put it this way,

Standard 125 runner sp can do 82mph

a bore kit will do 95-98mph.

and adding all the rest air filter, roller's, pipe, gear up, Carb etc.
It will do around that.
Anyone who read's twist and go will know.
So basically if you got the money you can do it

P.S

Me and my friend argue over DO MOPEDS HAVE GEAR'S!!
He says they have 1 yes its a twist and go but it need's to change gear down the line thats y u here the engine dip on mopeds, E.g like automatic cars have gears.E.g What is the gear up for?
Don't think i'm silly lol Confused
My mate got so stressed we nearly had a fight:oops:

Thumbs Up

Which moped is that then? I have never seen or heard of any scooter passing about 110 (except on a dyno)

Runners are notorious for having speedos that over read more than you average bike. A runner 125 cannot pass 80 with 125 gearing, as its to short. You can have as much power as you want but you wont be able to do it. Hence the need for a gear up kit to pull higer speeds and make more power.

Scooters are better suited to round town and commuting as you say. But they are cheap to tune compared to 4 strokes and are great for 1/4 mile sprinting as they are designed for acceleration . Its quite satisfying beating a bike when your on a scooter. Tuning is coming on very fast as well. A few years ago a 16 second quarter mile was pretty good on a scooter, however the faster ones are running in the low 12's now. The scooters are slowly moving up the classes. This year expect to see a few scooters in the 11.5 class at straightliners. Anyone who has been sprinting will know that a decent sports 600 will do a 1/4 mile in about 11.5 seconds so to come close on a scooter is pretty good.

11.5 class is 11.5-12.5 seconds. End of last year the best scooter did a 12.3 at 98mph at Elvington. The bike is still being worked on at PM tuning and will come back faster for next year Very Happy

I was on my old TS125 and saw a little red moped thing, I know now it was a Gilera 180. I tried racing it but TBH it was bloody quick!! Thrashed my TS.

180 Gilera runners are quite quick actually and will do a genuine 85 mph i reckon which isnt bad at all for a scooter.
